Austrian company Plasser & Theurer Export von Bahnbaumaschinen G.m.b.H., the worldwide operating full-range supplier for track maintenance machines, was contracted by Austrian Federal Railways ÖBB to deliver 56 high-performance maintenance vehicles (21 MultiCrafters for permanent way, 29 CatenaryCrafter for the overhead contact line, maintenance and assembly, as well as 6 TransportUnits). The new green fleet worth about 250 M EUR is the largest single order in the 70 years of company history at Plasser & Theurer. Traktionssysteme Austria from Wiener Neudorf will design and deliver 50 type TGE 59-33-4 traction generators which form the core of the sustainable transport system. The E³ drive technology enables an environmentally friendly electric hybrid drive. The electric machines powered by more than 500kW will be delivered by the end of 2025. I'm excited to share our latest publication titled "Route optimization of battery electric vehicles using dynamic charging on electrified roads" published in Sustainable Cities and Society. In collaboration with Dr. Vahid Akbari and Prof. Bülent Çatay, we explore the transformative potential of Electric Road Systems (ERS) for logistics activities. Our study introduces a solution for long-distance EV routes, leveraging ERS to enable charging while driving. Through innovative problem-solving and a network reduction heuristic (NRH), we demonstrate the viability of ERS in enhancing EV range and reducing carbon emissions in logistics operations. Key findings highlight that with widespread ERS deployment, EVs can cover distances exceeding 2000 kilometers without recharging, surpassing typical range limitations. Moreover, establishing ERS infrastructure on 30-40% of roadways ensures reliable EV access. link to the paper:

A new Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme with a Rs 500 cr outlay comes in to maintain focus on faster #electricvehicle adoption. That it is only for the next 4 months as #India gets ready for national elections can only mean more policy initiatives are to be expected after a new govt is sworn in. This is timely signalling by India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries to continue its focus on easier #evtransition , specially at lower end of the segment, even while rationalising and eventually eliminating incentives & subsidies under FAME. India is heading towards a shake-up among its #EV players as govt subsidies are expected to gradually go away and the policy focus to shift more towards #productionlinkedincentives to boost manufacturing. Only those with strong #domesticmanufacturing plans and investments in #batterytechnology likely to emerge #EV market leaders. Interesting times ahead. It was 2 months ago that I received this report prepared by CLOSERse about freight infrastructure for trucks and I still check it every once in a while. #REEL is an initiative born in Sweden through which Swedes have joined forces to accelerate the transition to zero-emission transport, with electrification being a fundamental pillar of this.⚡ Under this initiative, transport buyers, freight forwarders and distributors, hauliers, terminal operators, charging point operators, grid network companies as well as suppliers of #etrucks, charging infrastructure, energy and management systems can be found.🔋 It is also interesting to see different operations of electrification of heavy-duty transport, approaches to sizing projects, loading solutions adapted to different needs (you will see control units in loading and unloading docks, satellites in confined spaces...). In short, our USP's at Kempower are reflected in an independent study that encompasses a more mature electrified market and shows what is to come. Still reflecting on the impressions from the Nordic EV Summit ten days ago in Oslo, Norway. 🌍🚗 I was absolutely thrilled to have been part of the presentation showcasing Kempower new Megawatt Charging System (MCS).⚡️🔋 The new charging system is based on the existing state-of-the-art modular charging system base of Kempower which will provide significant CAPEX and OPEX savings for charging operators - with one 1.2 Megawatt Power Unit, not only the new Mega Satellites can be connected, but also several Liquid Cooled or simple Satellites with CCS2 connectors, to charge electric buses, trucks, or light electric vehicles when the MCS is not in use. Charging prioritization will be ensured by Kempower's ChargEye software. 🔄💡 Thus, charging operators will not need to invest separately in a standing MCS charging unit, the load of which will objectively be very low only for MCS charging in the first years, and 1.2 Megawatt DSO connection usage fee must be paid in many countries at a fixed rate, regardless of the actual load of the connection. Today the German Sachverständigenrat zur Begutachtung der gesamtwirtschaftlichen Entwicklung has published its Spring Report 2024, which also includes a chapter on sustainable freight transport. I am pleased that the majority of experts see the roll-out of charging infrastructure for fully electric commercial vehicles as an essential lever for low-emission transportation. A demand that we at MAN Truck & Bus SE have also been calling for a long time. What is needed now is full power in the expansion of the charging infrastructure and the reinvestment of significant amounts of the high additional revenue from the truck toll in a climate-friendly transformation of the transport and logistics industry. The next 2-3 years are crucial for the ramp-up. The charging infrastructure just can be realized immediately, if the additional revenue from the truck toll is used for this purpose. Otherwise electric trucks cannot make an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in the transport sector! To decarbonize road freight transport, our focus remains on battery-powered electric vehicles. These currently have clear advantages over other drive concepts in terms of energy efficiency and operating and energy costs and can best serve the vast majority of our customers' transport applications in the future. However, trucks such as our recently presented small series of the MAN hTGX, which are powered by hydrogen combustion engines, are a useful addition for special applications and markets.
