Today is the first day I can finally say, this is me.
For as long as you’ve known me, I’ve spent every day on a mission to uplift your voices as a part of my ultimate vision of unifying the world.
Over the course of this past year, it hit me that spreading this mission didn’t always mean that I was the one living it – well at least, not fully.
So many young people have found their voices and learned to use them by being part of our community, which is what I’m most proud of. At the same time, I’ve started to feel a sense of inauthenticity come over me.
For as long as I can remember, I thought unifying the world meant only creating space for other voices to be heard, and that there was never a need or a reason to amplify my own voice or my own opinions.
My favorite questions to ask people on our show and in conversation is “where does your point of view come from?” and “what does the world get wrong about you?” This is such a powerful way to understand the real facets of why someone believes what they believe and how they arrived at this very moment in their lives.
It dawned on me that I’ve never opened up about that question myself...until now.
For the first time ever, the tables have turned and my dear friend Alyson Stoner sat down with me in our POVz studio to create the space for me to tell my story.
It can be scary to be fully yourself, but vulnerability is far more powerful than any of us think and can truly help us all overcome division, simply by listening. Conversations like this that get beneath the surface and allow for the time and space to create true understanding is what leads to unity.
Here’s to a new chapter of unifying the world, from the inside, out.
