I'm on a panel at this forum next week, to talk about how we deal with the risk of modern slavery in renewable energy supply chains. As the forum will show, this is not a challenge unique to renewable energy, but our industry needs to be part of a solution to this global problem. Looking forward to the discussion.
Announcement 📢 We are excited to unveil the full program for the inaugural NSW Anti-slavery Forum. On the 21 & 22 May at Norton Rose Fulbright’s Sydney office we will be hosting a thought-provoking gathering of NSW anti-slavery leaders from government, business, academia, civil society, and people with lived experience. The Forum aims to spark collaboration to address modern slavery by fostering a community of purpose. Whether you are from the business sector, government, the community, or have lived experience, we hope this two-day Forum will provide opportunities to learn from and connect with others who are dedicated to combating modern slavery in our state. Peace and Justice Peace is not a byproduct of justice, but a purpose in itself. In 🇿🇼, we must strive to create a society where peace is not just an absence of conflict, but a positive and enduring condition. By harnessing the power of justice and other systems, we can build a culture of peace that fosters community cohesion, inclusivity, and sustainable development. #CreatingACultureofPeace

As America pauses today to celebrate Juneteenth a day that marks the landing of Federal Troops at Galveston within the great state of Texas to take control and ensure all enslaved people be rightfully freed I would like us to equally remember that we continue to have a great deal of work remaining even 161 years later. There are many efforts and champions of DEI efforts within government, academia, and business and I applaud their work. However, I stand firm in my assertion that as a society we have not achieved the goal of ensuring all enslaved people be rightly freed. These efforts must be continued, they must be discussed, and absolutely actioned. We pushed the disgusting act of human slavery from accepted and open observance to the shadows. Today in our society and globally the human slave trade remains a fully functioning system, with an estimated 46-50 million enslaved people in 2024, often targeting the most vulnerable of DEI populations. Sometimes these activities take place right in front of us with the support of both the witting and unwitting. As a society we must better educate each other on the signs of human trafficking which feeds the slavery process. We must understand when we might interact with events traffickers target for profit. We must be willing to report it when suspected. And we must all continue the assignment that our great leader gave to us 161 years ago to ensure all enslaved people be rightfully freed.
