The Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council (EMSDC) certifies and connects minority-owned businesses throughout Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware with member corporations, in an effort to advance economic equity and access to the American Dream. We work tirelessly to foster the development of MBEs with a targeted goal in mind: to better align them with corporations in an effort to initiate growth and opportunity through Supplier Diversity channels. Important discussions at Phoenix Way Network for Cheshire & Merseyside. Thankyou to network members who joined us yesterday & thanks to Luckman Lancashire BME Network for the update on the national programme. Inspired to mobilise a growing network across C&M of Black led & racially minoritised #VCFSE organisations. We had that conversation about language & identity! We also discussed barriers in funding, opportunities for collaboration and the value of research in our work. Importantly the Phoenix Way movement aims to address systemic racism in funding institutions. Increasingly we are seeing more funders asking difficult questions of themselves & investing in positive approaches to move forward. “More” but not enough. For the network emerging in C&M this is core to purpose however the space to connect, collaborate, receive support and discuss to move forward what matters to members is consistent in feedback of its value. I’ve reflected on network members experience of #EDI monitoring & evaluation… when you don’t exist outside of the “other” tick box. Having spent my adult life ticking the other box I’m still having a full blown debate in my own head. At what point did I just expect, accept & tick… Are there good examples out there of inclusive monitoring approaches? Thankyou to Phoenix Network colleague’s for thought provoking discussions and positive feedback. We’ve published our final Action Plan in response to the Local Government Association (LGA) Peer Challenge. This marks a significant milestone in our transformation journey to ensure the best outcomes for our residents. Newham is a place of vibrant diversity, and our goal is simple: to build a fairer community where everyone can thrive. The LGA Peer Challenge report acknowledged our progress, highlighting commendable improvements in various services and initiatives. There are challenges around prioritisation in a backdrop of increased budget pressures on local government. That's why our Action Plan is crucial - it outlines our commitment to address these issues head-on through focus, collaboration and diligence. With collective ownership from elected members, officers and our dedicated staff, we're already putting in place key strategies, like refreshing service plans, developing a new workforce strategy and enhancing our governance framework. Our Action Plan isn't just a document; it's a promise to deliver on the vision for a fairer Newham. By fostering a culture of learning and improvement, we're ensuring sustainable progress for our residents - the heart of everything we do.
