Experience Architect: Designing Unforgettable Events that Educate, Inspire, Engage. Publisher of the Event Pulse newsletter
This year has seen a wave of festival cancellations, leaving organizers and attendees with a sense of déjà vu. While PennFest, with a daily capacity of 10,000 over 3 days, may not be Coachella, small festivals like these still have a significant impact on the local economy, the incomes of performers, and the livelihoods of the stagehands and technicians who work behind the scenes. The PennFest organizers have done a number of things right - lessons that all event producers can learn from: 1. They notified everyone early. With the event dates originally set for July 19-21, this gave artists, technicians, and local establishments like hotels and restaurants ample time to adjust their plans and pivot their marketing efforts. 2. The organizers chose to cancel rather than deliver a subpar experience. Their statement about "challenging trading conditions coupled with significantly increasing costs in a very challenging economic climate" making it "impossible to deliver the event to the standard our customers have become accustomed to" indicates a commitment to quality that will be appreciated by their regular attendees. 3. The decision to roll over tickets to the 2025 event is a smart move on two counts: it saves on refund costs, and it leaves the organizer with cash on hand to help with the cash flow needed to plan the 2025 event. This proactive approach will serve them well as they look to bounce back stronger than ever. Read my full article in this week’s edition of Event Pulse https://lnkd.in/gC2V4qsB What would you do if faced with a similar situation of having to cancel an event due to factors outside your control? How would you balance the needs of attendees, vendors, and your own financial viability? https://lnkd.in/gFEC5hd8

It's that day of the month again when supporting artists generates even more (real) revenue for them... At 08:00 UK-time the 40th Bandcamp Friday goes live. You'll still pay the same, but the platform itself takes no cut, waiving its revenue share. Bandcamp hosts independent (DIY) artists, as well as labels. I support Bandcamp. Founded in 2008, it's based on taking a revenue share of sales. Their share is 15% on digital items, and 10% on physical goods. Payment processor fees are separate and vary depending on the size of the transaction, but for an average size purchase, amount to an additional 4-7%. The remainder, usually 80-85%, goes directly to the artist or their label, and they pay out daily. Bandcamp Fridays began in March of 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, when the shuttering of venues led to a loss of vital tour revenue for artists.
Is it Bandcamp Friday?

founder @ olea education, laugh your way to fluency with private joke ® the card game | 2024 franco-british young leader 📌 🇬🇧 🇫🇷
Had the bestest time hosting a PJ Girls Night In last night at Bambou, Paris 📍🇫🇷 Some learnings I’d like to share: 1/ Always anticipate a 30-50% no show for events, especially when they are free. Life happens and you can’t take it personally. Follow up anyway & stay positive. 2/ Sounds basic but ask people their names and remember them. Learn to pronounce names correctly, and if in doubt, just ask. 3/ Everyone has a place at the table when playing Private Joke, whether they speak one language or ten. Help people feel relaxed and they will open up and get more creative. 4/ Guide the agenda, but don’t push it. Oftentimes with each new group that plays PJ, the game evolves / is different. I personally love seeing this, although some game inventors get stuck on their original product, and not what the people / market wants. Be adaptable. 5/ Have fun and remember to take content. Last night the group didn’t want to be in videos unfortunately, so I’ll have to get creative with the content for the event. So here is a video of me prepping the event & getting the good vibes ready! ❤️, 🫒 We don’t usually ship to France, so if you’d like a PJ Girls Night In then let me know & I’ll hand deliver before 12/Jan. Games are 33 GBP & link below! 👇

It’s that time of the year again. To relive the roaring days and rose’ nights. Waiting for Lions and Smoked Salmons. And you just can’t stop talking about it. Year after year. To motivate. To invite. To keep the creative dream alive. Because not everyone goes there. And those who went, earned it. You don’t mind if it becomes a habit. You don’t mind if it becomes addictive. You don’t mind waiting for more. And more. That’s Cannes Lions ! Cannes for advertising folks is not a festival. It’s pilgrimage. Naysayers can say anything but it’s a place where like minded brains bring their bodies to feed on creativity. To absorb art. To inhale aesthetics. To soak in beautiful thoughts. It’s an atmosphere filled with positive vibes and optimistic energy. Where the vibrations are ecstatic. Where even subjective frequencies connect somewhere. If you’ve like to get high on advertising, then It ain’t over till you’ve got drenched at The Gutter Bar. #CannesLions #Advertising #CannesFestival #Cannes2024
