May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. How are you celebrating our AAPI neighbors, family members, colleagues and community members this month (and all year)? Three recommendations: 1. Check out the work of the The Asian Community Fund at the Boston Foundation and follow my colleague, Danielle Kim. 2. Read the current issue of Boston Spirit Magazine and specifically the article on community funds in support of the LGBTQ community, including a new fund launched in the Merrimack Value thanks to Julie Chen & Susu Wong. 3. Finally, read this piece that came out last year that centers LGBTQ mental health and the AAPI experience.

For many in the LGBTQ community, the journey towards self-acceptance and affirmation can be fraught with challenges. From societal prejudice to internalized shame, navigating these hurdles can significantly impact mental well-being. That's why this Pride Month, we're shedding light on the importance of prioritizing mental health within the LGBTQ community. At Counseling Col:lab, we stand firmly behind the belief that everyone deserves access to affirming mental health care, free from stigma and discrimination. Together, we can create a future where LGBTQ individuals feel empowered to prioritize their mental well-being and live authentically, with pride.

Our Subject Matter Expert Groups (SME) are a safe place for practitioners to come to discuss issues pertaining to their practices. We have 4 such groups: Business, Addiction, LGBTQ , and our newest, Psychotherapy. A guiding value within ECG is to help each other Become. How can parents and caregivers enhance the #MentalHealth outcomes of their LGBTQ loved ones and provide support? “Most important for a caregiver … is supporting your child regardless of whether you understand all aspects of queer identity. Simply treat them the way they want to be treated (including names and pronouns) and let them know you love them unconditionally.” - the Family Guide to Supporting Young People’s Mental Health and Well-Being, developed by Project Cal-Well.
