Hey everyone! I’m super excited to announce the launch of our Disability Resource Group (ABLE - Achieving Better Lives for Everyone) at Abercrombie & Fitch! I’m proud to be a co-chair! Being both a caregiver of someone with a disability and having disabilities myself... this launch is personal for me. 🤗 This group is about creating a safe space for people to feel seen and to learn together so we can all feel supported. I firmly believe everyone deserves to feel valued and respected at work, no matter their abilities or disabilities. ABLE is here to break down the stigma and shame associated with disability by raising awareness and providing support. Most importantly… we are going to TALK ABOUT IT. 😍 Here's what we'll be focusing on: Education and Awareness: We'll teach/learn about the different types of disabilities and how we can be inclusive. Support and Advocacy: We'll provide support to employees with disabilities and caregivers of those with disabilities. We listen, we learn, we grow. We're thrilled to start this journey and make Abercrombie & Fitch a more inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. In the words of Maya Angelou, "Do the best you can until you know better. I am glad I took the Get Disability Confident grow your understanding of disability course which has expanded my understanding on the 3-dimensional concepts of disability.While disability is one of many characteristics that make up a person’s identity. The course was able to allow me explore how I can ensure support that is tailored to truly meet a person’s specific, unique needs. I came to the realization that when we refer to inclusion, we are referring to the measure of culture that ensures diversity can thrive. Without an inclusive culture, diversity cannot thrive and diverse employee retention will be greatly reduced. While we learn to accept others with their unique differences, intersectionality needs to be understood also because we will consider how an individual can inhabit multiple identities that intersect within different systems of oppression, and importantly, how they overlap and are compounded. I recommend this interesting course for everyone, so we can have a more accommodative workspace.

Despite the increased focus on DEI initiatives, the disability community is often sidelined in these discussions. Surprisingly, only 3% of articles on diversity in 2019 and 2020 mentioned disabilities. Expanding our view of diversity to encompass disability is crucial. Companies excelling in disability employment and inclusion witness significant advantages: - 28% higher revenue - 200% higher net income - 30% higher economic profit margins - 200% increased likelihood of outperforming peers in total shareholder returns With over 750 million individuals globally, the disability community represents an immense untapped talent pool. As leaders, it's vital to understand that disability is not just a medical condition but a natural human diversity form that enriches organizations with unique perspectives and strengths.
