#DidYouKnow that where bedsores develop on the body directly relates to how a patient is positioned for a prolonged period of time? This is, unfortunately, something we commonly see in our area of practice. For example, a resident that has been confined to a seated position for a long period of time may develop bedsores on the tailbone, buttocks, legs, arm, spine, or around the shoulders. Residents can also develop bedsores on the rear or sides of the head, outer ears, lower back, hips, and other areas. As a Firm advocating for change, we recognize the importance of educating those who seek to protect their loved ones. Understanding the signs of neglect is key for better care. #KnowtheSigns

Locating the spot for compression. CPR is a life-saving procedure which is effective when done right. When carrying out this procedure you'll love to ensure you don't cause any harm to the individual. This is why you need to know the best method to locate the area of compression. Other important reasons include: 1️⃣This is the point of maximum leverage or ' travel ' on the breastbone and is directly over the heart. 2️⃣Excess pressure to either side of this spot could break a rib. 3️⃣Pressure below that spot could rupture an abdominal organ. Here's a simple method: ✔️Using your fingers, feel for the notch at the lower end of the breastbone. ✔️Measure two finger's width up from there ✔️Place the heel of your hand at that point on the breastbone. ✔️Congratulations, you just found the best area for compression, and you can get started. You can practice this so that when faced with a real emergency you'll be well-equipped to respond in real time. Good morning #PreventiveHealthcare #TheSafetyNurse #healthwriter

Why use a face mask with very small babies when using the AfriSpacer™? For very young babies who can't properly hold the spacer in their mouths, a face mask is needed. It goes between the baby and the spacer. When using the "Six Breath Technique," it's crucial to create a strong seal between the mask and the face. Otherwise, air might come in from the sides, and the medicine won't reach the lungs. Once a child can breathe in and out through their mouth without help, the face mask isn't necessary. Using the mouthpiece instead allows better delivery to the lungs. As soon as the child can manage breathing without assistance, remove the face mask and switch to the mouthpiece. Shop online to get your AfriSpacer™ here: https://lnkd.in/dmHMhP7B Dis-Chem here: https://lnkd.in/dpPyNacX Afrispacer can be purchased for State Hospitals and Clinics from the Central Supplier Database and Western Cape Supplier Database AFSA number MAAA1225709 AfriSpacer™ is now available at The Local Choice Pharmacy and Pharmacy at SPAR. Why is the "finger sweep method" no longer considered safe for helping a choking infant? According to the Mayo Clinic, you should never blindly finger sweep because you risk pushing the blockage deeper into the airway. Instead... 1️⃣ Place the infant face down on your forearm, with their head lower than their chest. 2️⃣Use your hand to support the infant's head and jaw. Make sure you are not covering their mouth or nose. 3️⃣ With the heel of your other hand, deliver five quick and forceful blows between the infant's shoulder blades. Use a gentle but firm motion. 4️⃣ After each back blow, check the infant's mouth to see if the obstruction has been dislodged. If not, proceed to the next back blow. *If the obstruction persists, seek emergency medical help immediately and if at any point the infant becomes unconscious, flip them over and provide 5 chest compressions. Repeat these steps until help arrives. #InfantCPR #NewParents #CPR #BabyTyler

Burns Prevention With the increased use of heaters, warm water bottles and hot drinks to keep us warm during this cold weather, we want to prevent burns! Thank you to our colleagues at Surgeons for Little Lives for their educational video! Reduce the Risk of Burns 1. In the kitchen: - Create a child free zone to prevent children from accidentally being “underfoot” - Put children down whilst you are drinking or carrying something hot - Use the back plates on the stove and turn handles to the back out of reach of children - Keep hot drinks and food away from the edges of table and use non-slip placemats 2. In the bathroom: - Set the geyser hot water temperature lower to less than 50°C. (At 50°C is takes 5 minutes to cause a severe burn; at 55oC it only takes 10 seconds and at 60°C only 1 second!) - Test the bath water before bathing the child with your own hand. - Do not leave children unattended in the bathroom Disclaimer: this post is not intended to provide medical advice. Advice on treatment or care of an individual patient should be obtained through consultation with a doctor or other health professional that has examined the patient and is familiar with the patient's medical history. #drgrahamjones #paediatrics #burns #prevention #SurgeonsforLittleLives

🌵🩸 New to Colorado? Living in Colorado's dry air can be tough on your nose, often leading to pesky nosebleeds. While ENT doctors provide excellent treatment options, you can try these first aid steps at home to stop a nosebleed: Stay Calm: Keep your cool to handle the situation effectively. Gently Blow Your Nose: Clear out any clots. Pinch Your Nose: Use your thumb and index finger to pinch both nostrils shut and apply pressure for 10–15 minutes. Breathe through your mouth while pinching. Lean Forward: Avoid swallowing blood by leaning forward. Apply a Cold Compress: Place it on your face and eyes to constrict blood vessels. Use a Nasal Decongestant Spray: An over-the-counter spray with oxymetazoline can help stop the bleeding. Stay prepared and breathe easy! 🌬️ #NoseCare #ColoradoLiving #FirstAidTips #StayCalm #ENTCare #PeakENTandVoiceCenter #nosebleeds #nature #colorado #dry aircare #beprepared #getoutside #nasalcare #helpfornosebleeds #goldencolorado #denvercolorado #brightoncolorado #broomfieldcolorado
