SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION - Trinec Factory Sustainability in action: reducing scope 1 CO2 emissions by 19 %. Vesuvius manufacturing site case study. Our challenge: Minimise the gas consumption and CO2 emissions per tonne of product produced in the Vesuvius Trinec factory which uses gas-fired kilns and ovens. Solution: To determine the most energy-intense installations, to track each product's energy consumption with a metering system and analytic tools, and eventually, optimise burner settings and kiln load. Outcomes: Total CO2 emissions reduced by 19% per tonne of product produced in 2023, compared to 2021 reference value. Jiri Bozik Technical Manager from Trinec: “The environment matters to me, and I’m looking for the most efficient methods to reduce CO2 emissions. I focus on three things: 1. Measuring and collecting data and shopfloor information on energy consumption for each product family. 2. In-depth analysis of the reasons behind the excessive energy use. 3. Regular review and open discussions with my colleagues - operators. They significantly impact the kiln's and burners' efficiency and involving them in the energy reduction process is crucial. “ Read more about our journey towards net zero in our 2023 Sustainability Report.
