In these times, we need creativity and innovation more than ever to build a more sustainable future. At #Valmet, creativity and innovation are woven into the fabric of our daily operations. Our team of over 500 R&D professionals is at the forefront: they innovate new technologies, products, and services that address customer needs. But it doesn’t stop there. They also help to respond to some of the most important global megatrends: enhancing the efficiency of raw materials, water, and energy, promoting the use of renewable raw materials, and reducing emissions. In 2022, Valmet launched its most ambitious R&D program to date: Beyond Circularity. It aims to accelerate the green transition by developing innovative solutions and services that transform waste and emissions into valuable resources. More than 230 partners have already joined our ecosystem, collaborating on 29 exciting ecosystem projects. Internally, we have almost 100 program-related R&D projects ongoing. One shining example of our recent innovations in this field is the Sleeve roll technology, which improves dewatering efficiency in the forming section. Delivering on our commitment to sustainability through innovation.  Today, O-I  announced a significant investment at our facility in Alloa, UK. In our new 2024 Sustainability Report we released last week, we paint a clear picture about how the path to #sustainability is paved by #innovation. Today’s announcement is a proof point of our strategy.    Over the next two years, we’re implementing technology at Alloa to advance sustainable glass manufacturing long-term.     ✅We’re adding gas-oxy combustion tech to an existing furnace and building a second  ✅We’re increasing recycled glass   ✅We’re adding more renewable energy    The additional furnace will support growth plans for customers in the Spirits category as well as strengthen those customers sustainability journeys.    Alloa has been making glass since 1750. Using plastic from renewable sources reduces the carbon footprint. “More and more customers are demanding environmental action and we are up for the challenge,” says Anis Kara, Product Line Manager Life Science at Getinge. Introduced 60 years ago, DPTE® was the world’s first mechanical containment system. The completely leak tight system features an alpha port in the wall of a barrier system and a beta container or beta bag. Docking and rotating the beta section 60 degrees creates a secure connection to the alpha port. Utilizing the increased availability of sustainable raw materials, our development team has focused on introducing renewable plastics in the beta section, which previously was made of Polycarbonate (PC) from fossil oil, without jeopardizing the performance of the single-use bag. “The result is the majority of the plastic from renewable resources, such as biomass waste and residues of biological origin, for example used cooking oils,” Anis explains.
