Will the hype around AI drive demand for edge computing? The industry consensus seems to be a cautious ‘yes’. Early AI investments have primarily focused on large-scale data centers rather than the edge. But, we can expect to see this change in 2024 and beyond when the implementation of inference on a large scale will see the network on the edge evolve and grow. As industry analysts outline here, inference drives the switch to the edge as it depends more on low latency than other AI models, which can only be delivered close to the end user, at the network edge. There’s another factor at play here, too: sustainability. Data centers at the edge enhance performance and reduce energy consumption – a key focus for telcos. Do you agree we’ll see more edge centers popping up in 2024? https://ow.ly/Nl9u50Qi4bc #AI #GenAI #Edge #EdgeComputing #DataCenter

I am not sure I agree. This analysis assumes the same AI tech we have now, will remain so. My bet is that we will see Future AI "powered by" smaller and significantly more efficient models. This feels like a report written when the first vacuum tubes were invented and folks extrapolating the energy needs for today's computing infrastructure! https://lnkd.in/gMHQsx3S
