This opinion piece by John Mills reinforces what I have observed and posted over the last few years. While renewable energy may be desirable, unfortunately its timely development and deployment is not. Take two minutes to read this article about the tensions between zero emissions and data center needs. Renewables’ Head-On Collision With Reality https://lnkd.in/e_Gswhu3

Microgrids have been a hot topic. 💭 In simple terms, a microgrid is a self-efficient #Energy system that can run independently and "island" themselves from the main power grid. Why should #Utilities show interest in microgrids? If the main power grid has an outage, the microgrid can rely on distributed energy resources (DERs), such as wind energy or #Solar PV, to keep generating electricity. 💡 Microgrids were initially adopted by hospitals and data centers and have since been expanding to remote areas, college campuses and other areas. How does Itron play a role in #Microgrids? Itron thought leader, Nick Tumilowicz, highlights how Itron's Grid Edge Intelligence solutions can provide real-time control of #DERs, which is crucial for maintaining grid operations during outages. Data Center What Type of Distributed Energy Resources is Proper for the Data Center? as we know Data Centers are a big energy consumer in developed countries. more than 2.6 % of electricity generation is consumed in data centers of the European Union. On the other hand, it will be expected due to the huge market size (about USD 16.99 billion in 2023). last day we challenged different structures of DER in the Data Center at a meeting organized by Dear Mike Brisbois, PE. Renewable energy resources like Solar, Wind turbines, FC, BESS, and HESS are some of the popular resources that data Center owners use today. The choice of DERs depends on geographical opportunities, access to resources, and the overall project's financial attractiveness. Also, attention to environmental requirements is another element we should consider during designing DER for data Centers. #cleanenergy #datacenter #cleanpower #electrical_engineering #distributed_energy_resources #microgrid #smartgrid #energymanagement

According to LBNL, hybrid power plants, particularly #solar-battery hybrids, are becoming increasingly popular amongst U.S. developers. By the end of 2023, these plants made up 55% of active utility-scale solar and 52% of active utility-scale #energystorage capacity on the interconnection queue. Hybridization is expected to continue, as solar’s generation patterns align with the peak electricity demand. For more details, read here: https://ow.ly/Gi8J50TPIWN
