As we navigate through these changing times, staffing agencies are playing a pivotal role in shaping diverse and inclusive workforces. Staffing agencies act as a bridge, connecting diverse talent with companies looking to enhance their workforce diversity. They are the employers of nearly 16 million temporary and contract workers each year, making them a significant player in the labor market. However, the industry faces its own challenges. While it does a good job of bringing in women, the numbers drop off dramatically when it comes to moving them up the ranks. Despite these challenges, the commitment to DEI remains strong. Staffing agencies are continually reassessing their practices to ensure fairness in hiring, pay, and promotions. They are also investing in training and development to retain diverse talent and give them opportunities within leadership and management1. As we move forward, it’s clear that staffing agencies will continue to play a crucial role in promoting DEI in the workplace. Traditional methods like contingency (transactional) recruitment, preferred supplier lists (PSLs), job adverts, employee referrals, and posts on social media are no longer sufficient. If we want a diverse and inclusive workplace, we need to expand and optimize our candidate search using a comprehensive consultative process that targets 100% of the talent pool—engaging both active and passive candidates with zero bias or discrimination.
