This week’s #FeatureFriday is Alex Edlund✨, our Vice President of Customer Acquisition! Alex's career in marketing was launched from a data-driven foundation with a passion for continuous learning. Let’s get to know Alex👇 Q: How did you begin your career in Marketing? "It all started with an internship at a well-known agency in the south of Sweden, where I was really introduced to both the art and science of Marketing. However, in 2009, I got my first full-time job as a Search Marketer in Las Vegas, NV. I didn't really know much about search at that point, but it sounded really cool, and I've always gravitated more to the more data-driven areas of Marketing. It ended up launching my career.” Q: What is the best part of your role? "I always say that the process of continuous experimentation fuels my passion for Marketing. Learning on the job is one of the most important factors to job satisfaction. We're constantly testing new ideas, running tests across the website, in our ad programs, emails, and more. Every time a new test is done, a new one begins. It's rewarding to see Marketers and organizations grow as a result of that mindset.” Q: What’s something you love that people wouldn’t expect? “Whenever I tell people I love pickleball, they give me an odd look.” Q: What game show do you think you could win? "I'd like to think I could win "Who wants to be a millionaire" for the same reason I love what I do. Learning new, random facts is a favorite pastime. #lifeatversapay

It was a month of trying and running out of my comfort zone. A month of learning and experiencing new things. A month of embarking on the unknown and emerging with growth and experience. Pointwest, taking IT further took me alongside its venture. Stepping into the unknown: My very first internship and a step outside of the classroom. A nerve-wracking experience just like my first day in college. It was the start of a new journey towards learning and meeting new people. Here at Pointwest, I started my understanding of B2B, understanding what working outside of school is, and getting a glimpse of being a professional. Digital Impact: Here, I understood the impact of digitizing and the impact that an IT-BPM company like Pointwest can make to provide solutions to an ever-growing digital world. I was introduced to many products offered by Pointwest, from automated software testing, analytics and data engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and even products regarding healthcare like clinical trials and pharmacovigilance. B2B Marketing: This internship provided me with insights and a B2B mindset. I was refreshed on the importance of global and local industry news and learned how to market through the lenses of B2B. It was challenging due to the B2C mindset however, my mentors guided me and helped me understand how it works and where to start. Furthermore, this internship taught me to be opportunistic in terms of B2B marketing. Challenging yet rewarding: This journey is nothing short of rewarding however, there are challenges that made me try harder than I expected. Researching and looking for industry trends was challenging and I often question myself if I was on the right track. However, with enough perseverance, I came across the right guidance, the right advice, and the right platforms leading to a task completion of what I thought was difficult. Overall, I never would have thought that I would be embarking on a journey in a B2B company but here I am, an intern who learned through guidance and challenges. I am glad to take a step forward toward an initiative to discover and explore a glimpse of what it means to work with professionals at Pointwest. Thank you very much!

Founder @ Break into Tech || LinkedIn Content Creator || Public Speaker || Woman in Business and Tech || I help university students across Africa grow their Careers and Personal brands
How I got into Product Marketing with ZERO experience 1️⃣ Leveraged relevant past marketing experiences: I had built an e-commerce business which I used to practice digital marketing concepts I had learnt from a free online course. I had also volunteered as a sales and marketing intern at a small venture and as a lead nurturing intern at AIESEC. Although these experiences were unpaid I gained transferable skills which helped me in getting into product marketing. 2️⃣ Developed relationships with product marketing professionals: I simply typed into the LinkedIn search bar “Product Marketing Manager” and it brought out a list of people in the field who share similarities with me such as same university, geographical proximity, past companies, etc I sent personalized requests to learn from them and scheduled virtual coffee chats with those who were interested. A short chat with the right person led to my first product marketing internship which was later extended to a part time role. (If you struggle with this, check comment below for easy solution ⬇️) 3️⃣ Continued to grow my mastery of the field (knowledge and skill): During my internship, I continued taking online courses which helped me to stay updated on the best practices and concepts to apply in the field. I also joined product marketing communities (African Product Marketing Pioneers) and followed thought leaders on LinkedIn so I could learn more from professionals in the field and apply my knowledge to my current and future roles. ———- This is really how simple it is to break into a new field. Which point (1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣) do you need to adopt today to help you with breaking into your field of interest? Follow me if you enjoyed this post and repost if you think someone else can learn from it 🙌🏾 #breakintotech #productmarketing #earlycareer #universitystudent

Founder @ Break into Tech || LinkedIn Content Creator || Public Speaker || Woman in Business and Tech || I help university students across Africa grow their Careers and Personal brands
How I networked my way to my first Product marketing internship and how you can too 💎 1️⃣ Identify your target company or role. I was curious on how to break into product marketing without prior experience. 2️⃣ Reach out to connections who share things in common with you like university, nationality, etc. I found someone who was a student from my university, although I had never met her before, but she had started her career in product marketing. 3️⃣ Send a personalized invite. In the invite you should acknowledge how you both align and how you would love to learn from them. DO NOT ask for an internship right away 🚩 4️⃣ Learn about them first. Ask about their experiences, their career journey, and the company they’re currently working at. Be interested in knowing them first. 5️⃣ Share a bit about yourself. Talk about your interests, your experiences, the stage you are at right now and ask for advice from them based on their own experience. 6️⃣ Follow up and add value. This could be through engaging with their LinkedIn posts, sharing new ideas about their work based on your own research, even showing them your portfolio and getting concrete feedback on it. Along these 6️⃣ steps you would have formed a relationship that would potentially get you a referral at their company, or free mentorship for other opportunities to come. I personally only got to 5️⃣ where I had an online coffee chat with the person. From that chat we got along so well that she connected me with her managers to replace her (as a product marketing intern) since she was leaving the company to go to Google. Try out this short guide and let me know how it goes 💎 Save this post for your next coffee chat 😉 #networkingtips #linkedin #productmarketing

Hello, everyone. 🤗 I wanted to give a huge update on how my internship is going last May. So, without any further ado, let's get right to it. ⬇ So far, my internship with Digital4Good x #ICANHELP has been going well, as usual. As a Lead Marketing Intern, as usual, nothing has changed throughout my role, besides scheduling upcoming blogs 📝 (of course, while tagging authors), updating analytic data via Google Sheets, leading team meetings every Tuesday and presenting them via Google Slides, collaborating with Joshua Lipka and David Gannon through our upcoming June campaign. As always, what I have gotten so far from this internship is that I have been getting more and more experience in social media marketing, as well as learning how to be a good digital citizen of social media, and of course tagging Digital4Good in my “Weekly Gratitude Gaze” reel and my “Wednesday Words of Wisdom” reel. As far as the AllRise Foundation, through finding winners and direct messaging them, I finally found a lot of nominees, in which I decided to go out of my way to nominate my high school coaches, student-athlete services workers from Upper Iowa University, and many others (all of whom I knew during my years growing up). My hope is that I will find more nominees/winners soon. What I would like to improve on is getting more engagement among the posts and blogs that have been posted. In addition, I was able to step up to help get the Week 2 posts all finished within the June campaign, since I had to get them in on time, which helped me to get acquainted to getting the assignments done on time and correctly, in order to get them in before the due dates (ability to meet deadlines). Kim Karr, Josh and of course, Dave, all have been doing a tremendous job in helping me get the experience in social media marketing I need to get the coolest job that deserves me, as well as potential job opportunities within social media marketing. 💙 ✅ Like always, I have been very blessed for this amazing opportunity to collaborate with an amazing organization that took me under its wings for social media marketing, and social media overall. I look forward to learning and developing more skills. 😁
