🌈 Celebrating Pride Month: The Power of Language and Inclusivity 🌈 As we come to the close of #PrideMonth, it’s essential to remember the importance of language. Why? Because language is powerful. It shapes our perceptions, influences our interactions, and has the potential to either include or exclude individuals. Using correct and respectful terms when addressing others is not just a matter of politeness — it's a fundamental aspect of recognizing and validating their identities and experiences. We are committed to educating ourselves and to working with our vibrant community to ensure we are all continuously working towards inclusion. It’s a small but significant step towards creating a world where everyone can thrive. With this in mind, our Research & Advocacy team have created both an Intersectionality Guide, which includes a gender-inclusive language tip sheet, and a Glossary to facilitate learning and understanding of language. Thank you to everyone who is helping drive this change and ensuring that our conversations are inclusive and respectful. Let's continue to celebrate diversity and champion inclusivity every day! Why is inclusive language so important? Because it has the power to shape our collective consciousness. 💡 As we begin #PrideMonth, we thought it pertinent to share this clip from our new 'LGBTQ Inclusion' e-learning course featuring Yassine Senghor. 🏳️🌈 Inclusive language is often framed as a nicety or "the right thing to do", but it's so much more than that, and that's why we love this quote from Archbishop Desmond Tutu. 💗 Knowingly or unknowingly, if we exclude people through the language we use, we also exclude them from having a seat at the table. By using inclusive language, we are laying the foundations for the diverse, equitable and inclusive world that we want to live in. 🌱 💻 Find out more about our 'LGBTQ Inclusion' course: https://lnkd.in/ebdd-7P6 💌 Email [email protected] for more information on bespoke corporate packages and multi-user licensing. 🌈 Embracing My True Self: A Journey of Growth, Compassion, and Innovation 🌈 Growing up, I believed being right meant being competent. This mindset fueled my passion for learning and striving for perfection. But this quest clashed with my sexuality, leaving me feeling lost and drained of passion for life. Over time, I realized that embracing my true self transformed everything. I became more confident, my connections blossomed, and my passion reignited. As Tim Cook said, "I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me." This resonates deeply with me. Embracing my identity has given me profound compassion and a strong voice for justice. As an upcoming software developer, embracing my true self has enhanced my ability to collaborate on innovative projects, bringing a unique perspective and fostering a supportive, inclusive environment. Happy Pride Month to everyone celebrating! Embrace who you are, and may your journey be filled with strength, pride, and joy. Let’s support each other and create a more inclusive world. #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #Inclusion #SoftwareDevelopment #Innovation #Compassion

🌈 Embracing Authenticity: Navigating Voice as a Trans Person 🌟 Every day, many of us wake up to face a world where our voices are scrutinized, questioned, or even targeted. As a transgender individual, navigating the complexities of voice can be particularly challenging. It's more than just the pitch or tone; it's about identity, acceptance, and the freedom to be ourselves. Imagine starting your day knowing that your voice might draw unwanted attention or judgment. Each encounter becomes a tightrope walk between authenticity and self-preservation. It's exhausting, disheartening, and at times, downright infuriating. But amidst this struggle, there's resilience. There's a quiet strength that comes from embracing our true selves despite the obstacles. It's about finding power in vulnerability and refusing to be silenced by society's narrow expectations. To those who've felt the weight of every sideways glance or disapproving whisper, know that you're not alone. Your voice, in all its uniqueness, is a testament to your journey, your courage, and your unwavering spirit. So, how do we navigate this terrain? It starts with self-compassion and self-affirmation. It's about acknowledging the validity of our experiences and finding solidarity within our community. It's about raising our voices collectively to demand recognition, respect, and equality. Let's foster a world where every voice is celebrated, where diversity is embraced, and where no one has to feel diminished for simply being themselves. Together, let's create a chorus of acceptance, harmony, and love. #TransVisibility #Authenticity #VoiceMatters #Equality #Inclusion #LGBTQIA 🏳️🌈 Photo: Barbara Bogacka

🌈 Pride Month: Embracing Small Steps Towards Inclusivity 🌈 This month, next month, every month... I've been reflecting on the importance of inclusivity and the role each of us plays in fostering a more tolerant and open world. Often, it’s the efforts that pave the way for bigger changes. A colleague recently pointed out a meaningful gap in my LinkedIn recommendation for them —pronouns. While my recommendation was well-received, it lacked this very significant detail. It was a gentle reminder that even well-intentioned actions can fall short of true inclusivity. This insight has been a learning moment for me. It's easy to overlook things, but these are often the building blocks of a more inclusive environment. Recognizing and using someone's pronouns correctly is a simple yet powerful way to show respect and support for their identity. Inclusivity isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about consistent, everyday actions that demonstrate our commitment to tolerance and openness. Whether it's adding pronouns to our profiles, listening more actively, or educating ourselves about the experiences of others, every small step counts. To my colleague, thank you for the gentle nudge and the reminder that we are all on a journey towards better understanding and acceptance. Your feedback has been invaluable. NOT JUST at Pride Month, let’s all commit to taking those small steps that make a big difference. Let’s celebrate diversity in all its forms and strive to create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. This month, next month, every month! #PrideMonth #Inclusivity #Tolerance #Openness #Diversity #LGBTQ

🏳️🌈 Is "Pride" simply about the English word for pride, or does it carry a deeper meaning? 🌈 Great question! From my research, it appears that Pride encompasses both interpretations. At its core, Pride signifies embracing and celebrating your true self. It's about having confidence in your identity and proudly displaying your uniqueness. Interestingly, some attribute additional significance to Pride, drawing inspiration from the values upheld by institutions like the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Here, "PRIDE" symbolizes Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, and Excellence. 🔹 Professionalism: Demonstrating competence, accountability, and collaboration in all interactions. 🔹 Respect: Treating others with kindness and consideration, mirroring the treatment you wish to receive. 🔹 Integrity: Upholding honesty and ethics, always doing what's right and fair. 🔹 Diversity: Valuing and celebrating differences, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. 🔹 Excellence: Striving for dedication, innovation, and support to achieve the best outcomes. (Source: USC Resource Centre) While various LGBTQ organizations have also contributed to the understanding of Pride, I'm inclined to emphasize its fundamental essence: "Being unapologetically you." Let's continue embracing Pride as a celebration of authenticity and self-empowerment! 🌈 #Pride #Authenticity #Inclusion #smitasimplifies pic credit : Stock Cake

Have you made this mistake too? Saying, "We don't care about gender, religion, background, or experience; we're an inclusive company." I've used that line when discussing our equal opportunities policy. But a recent post by Abhinav opened my eyes. This approach can inadvertently dismiss diversity and perpetuate inequities. Let's rethink how we promote inclusivity. Check out his post for insights on avoiding these pitfalls. And reshare with your friends and colleagues to encourage a workplace where everyone can belong. 🏳️🌈 #DEIB #InclusivityMatters #EqualOpportunities #DiversityInclusion #RethinkInclusivity
DEI Speaker | Award-winning DEI Changemaker | Global LGBTQ Corporate Advocate 2023 Award by Out & Equal | OUTstanding 100 Future Leaders Role Model 2023 and 2022 | Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
My most admired leader had me review his speech for a DEI summit at his company. "Whatever your gender, religion, or experience is, we don't care. We are a very inclusive and diverse company." caught my attention. It raised a red flag for me. "We don't care"? He justified by explaining that the company not caring about these implies there’s no discrimination. I explained to him that this is problematic as it dismisses rather than promotes inclusivity. While it might seem impartial, it inadvertently communicates a disregard for diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities, making people feel unseen and unheard. Moreover, it fails to recognize and address disparities in opportunities and treatment, perpetuating inequities. Together, we rephrased his statement to: "We are an inclusive company, and we invite people from all experiences to work with us. We value and welcome every person's individuality, and support them. We are also always learning and evolving every single day." I helped him make several changes in his speech to ensure his true intentions were reflected. A few months later, he and his team took it next level by integrating it into their job portal and having their recruiters follow it when approaching candidates. To help others avoid similar pitfalls, here are my three tips : 1. Inclusive Language Beyond Words: True inclusivity is demonstrated through actions, policies, and commitment. Ensure your words are backed by initiatives that DEI. 2. Empathy in Action: Empathy is often discussed but not always practiced. Try combining empathy with your presentation skills to enhance your connection with the audience. 3. Language is Paramount: Review your talking points carefully. Your audience will hear what you say, not what you mean.
