A report by Accenture in partnership with Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities states that organizations that implement disability-inclusive policies and practices tend to outperform their peers. This year’s report looked at 346 U.S. companies that participated in the Disability Equality Index. Companies that incorporated disability-inclusive practices had 1.6 times more revenue and 2.6 times more net income. #policies #report #changes #organizations #disabilities

What is Disability Pride? July is Disability Pride Month. Having a disability is far more than just the physical or mental effects on the body and mind. It is part of our identity, as much as our height, weight, gender, race, and other attributes that make up our unique individuality. Having disability pride is a direct challenge to systemic ableism and the stigmatizing conscious and unconscious biases we hold about disabilities. It's about showing that our unique individuality, with our disabilities and all, is important and has tremendous value - it is not something to shy away from but to cherish and celebrate. With at least 1-in-4 adults in the United States having some type of disability, let's get out and carry ourselves with pride this month (and all months), challenge our own biases, and celebrate the unique individuality of everyone in our community. 📅 Disability Pride Month starts on Monday 1st July. But what is the month about and why should organisations take part? For the disabled community, the month encourages self-acceptance and embracing all disabilities. It is also a chance for everyone to kickstart conversations about disability experiences and issues. This is important in the workplace because: 🔴 “In October to December 2023, 329,000 working-age disabled people were unemployed, a fall of 79,000 from October to December 2022. The unemployment rate for disabled people was 5.6%, which compared with a rate of 3.6% for people who are not disabled.” UK Parliament. 🔴 There are many benefits to employing disabled people, such as bringing “additional skills to the business, such as the ability to use British Sign Language (BSL)”. UK Government. 🔴 Disability awareness can help remove barriers for disabled colleagues. As we reflect on Disability Pride Month this July, let's challenge ourselves to move beyond surface-level celebrations and towards meaningful action. At All Means All, we believe in amplifying diverse disabled voices and creating spaces that truly value and include disabled people in all their complexity. As Yolanda Vargas beautifully puts it: "Disability pride is a beautiful jewel crafted from unlearning ableism and embracing the good with the bad, recognizing the humanity that all people possess just by existing."
