#CitizenScience is becoming a mainstream research practice in environmental and #publichealth studies. In recent years, it has gained considerable prominence for a number of reasons: 📍 Citizen engagement fosters a sense of 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, making it an inclusive and democratic approach to research. 📍Citizen science allows researchers to collect data on a 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀. 📍𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 have made it easier for individuals to participate in scientific data collection. 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘀, 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 facilitate data submission and communication. 📍Citizen science provides an excellent opportunity for 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵. Participants learn about scientific processes, data analysis, and critical thinking. In our OneAquaHealth Project Citizen Science is a cornerstone and is embedded in every phase of the research design and implementation from the setup of Local Alliances in the cities involved, to the co-design of methods and tools and the broader engagement of citizens in data collection enabled by the Citizen Science framework jointly developed by the consortium under the guidance of our partner SHINE 2Europe. For this reason, we have identified Citizen Science as the topic of the first cross-project webinars that we at Wise Angle - as leader of exploitation and clustering activities - are going to arrange. 💡 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧: 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 📆 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡: 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 / 𝟭𝟭:𝟬𝟬𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗘𝗧 💻 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘: 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 https://lnkd.in/grfsAvdV 🎙 𝗪𝗛𝗢: We will have the pleasure to listen from like-minded projects such as DRYvER_h2020 and E4Warning, discuss success stories and effective approaches to engage citizens and delve into the experience of other app-based citizen science experiments such as the #Citizeen app developed by OWLplaces for Pharaon and the project Espécies Invasoras em Portugal. Reimagining our health systems with the power of data and AI presents its own set of challenges. I am leaving the Swiss Biotech Day 2024 in Basel with a lot of energy after having moderated a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring Katrin Crameri, PhD, MPH, Director for Personalized Health Informatics at the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, Vincent Lepreux, Investment Principal at Debiopharm Innovation Fund, and Sevan Antreasyan, partner at Lenz & Staehelin. We all agree that the vision to unburden and future-proof our health systems warrants a thorough and broad application of AI and data science, while we need to be mindful of three essential principals: 👩⚖️ Any application of AI and advanced analytics in health and care needs to comply with international regulation and have patient information security as its paramount priority 🌐 Collecting patient health data for secondary purposes in a secure and interoperable fashion is imperative when striving for better insights – to achieve this, one central conform and safe platform across the entire health system is needed 📈 Policy makers need to recognize that ensuring the health and well being of entire populations is not sunk cost – it’s an investment into every nation’s prosperity and stability Many thanks to my fellow esteemed panelists as well as Annamaria Kauzlaric for organizing this great session! #PopulationHealth #HealthEquity #HealthData Peter Speyer | Helge Buess | Julia Bielicki | University Children's Hospital Basel | Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute | Swiss Biotech Association

Just coming back from my first IMI_EHDEN study-a-thon. What a day! Two days actually :-) Hard work, great company, deep insights, and a lot learned. This is real world data in action, for medicine. Some really smart people coming together, putting their heads together and crunching numbers in real time on distributed medical data from diverse sources, many countries. Wow, what a privilege to participate. Made possible by a comon data model (#OMOP) and, what I would call, semi-automated analytics :-). Comment below if you have opinions, experience with this, would love to hear your thoughts! Cannot wait for more, and see where this leads us! Thousand thanks to Peter Rijnbeek and his team at Erasmus MC who made this possible, especially Maxim Moinat, Ross Williams. Such great hosts! Thanks to everyone who participated, especially, Jimmy Toulas, Erwin Bruninx, Abaigeal Jackson (Pfizer); Álvaro Martínez Pérez, Selçuk Şen, Marek Oja (data partners) and Pfizer for the study! And last but not least thanks to the HUS team who made participation possible, especially Kimmo Porkka (maker of all things and FinOMOP Pioneer), Pasi Rikala (Technology Magician, Productivity Leap), Perttu Koskenvesa (Mapping Guru), and the rest of the team including Otso Peippo , Anna Virtanen, Annu Kaila, Johanna Niklander, ..., and wider support: Miika Leminen (AI and Applications), Niilo Aho (HUS Datalake), Tatu Huovilainen (Data Architect). And to top it all off, we got to see the Northern Lights on the flight back to Helsinki (sorry no good photo, too dim, too much reflection in the window). #TheFutureIsHere #FutureOfMedicine #RWD #FederatedAnalysis #RWE #OHDSI #Dataharmonization
