Circular Petfood! Yesterday we from VDL Insect Systems participated in a workshop related to this theme. How can the petfood sector lower their environmental impact in LCA's? Insects might be a very interesting solution!! Geert Poels from VDL Insect Systems, gave the audience some learnings and insights related to the insect sector, its capabilities and off course the efforts VDL Groep is putting in it... A big thanks to Feed Design Lab for organizing this inspiring day! #acceleratingtheinsectindustry

The inaugural #FastmarketsBFEurope has now come to a close. We want to thank everyone who joined us and contributed to the event's success! We're excited to see everyone in Chicago next year at our annual Biofuels and Feedstocks conference. In the meantime, take a look at the upcoming #agriculture events we're running this year: https://lnkd.in/eGDENUt4 #FastmarketsAgriculture #FastmarketsBFEurope #biofuels #feedstocks
Thanks Fastmarkets Agriculture for the excellent event in Rotterdam. Sharing insights between US and EU markets in the context of securing sustainability evidence and premiums was sorely needed. Greatful to share our view on how EU and EPA requirements for point of origin traceability can be satisfied through digital record keeping. I have a feeling my next Bioledger demos will be in USA and China. We don’t have all the answers yet but we’ll get there. Dankjewel

How are both EU and US #sustainability #policies tasking the agrifood sector to change practices from the ground up and how can your business break the noise? With Kristie Sigler, Judith Rowland, Jane Gimber we discussed the intersections between communication opportunities and sustainability compliance within a challenging political landscape. Good news is that if you missed it there’s a recording that we’d be happy to share with you. Just feel free to reach out!
Last week, my amazing colleagues Judith Rowland, Jane Gimber and Meropi Klogka shared some thought-provoking insights on the communication opportunities in the spaces where food, agriculture and sustainability intersect. If you missed the session and want either the link to the recording OR links to some of the tools the team shared, drop me a DM and I'll send your way. It's an exciting and evolving space for all of us in food and agriculture!

Thanks to the Sustainable Urban Delta for supporting our #regenerative visions for Hamburg and for all the work they do around the globe promoting more #sustainable and #local food systems. 💚 It’s not only about what we produce but how we produce our foods that will allow us to build a more resilient #foodsystem 🌱🥩🧀🍓 #newfood #futurefood #climatesolutions
Seeds of change: unlocking Hamburg's regenerative food future. Unlocking Hamburg’s regenerative food future is a transformative journey that involves not only conserving resources but actively building them. This journey is one where we at the Sustainable Urban Delta Foundation are honored to play a role, collaborating with all the people and organizations interviewed in this video. We visited two initiatives for regenerative farming in Hamburg, Gut Haidehof and The Future Food Campus Hamburg. Thanks to Florian Weischer, Eva Keretic, Torsten Gasser and Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg. #foodsystems #regenerativeagriculture #foodproducingcities #foodfuture #localfood #hamburg

It is our mass production approach and our living in big cities that is the root cause of all trouble! The amount of transport and mass production to supply big cities is the main issue!! It's the how, not the cow. The idea that cows are inherently bad for the climate is a persistent belief, and for cows that are not managed in a holistic grazing system, this is definitely true. However, animals, including cows, are an integral part of any natural ecosystem, and cows have a perfect symbiosis with grassland. Grasslands, when properly managed, can act as significant carbon sinks. The process involves grasses growing rapidly and absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. When cows graze on these grasses, they trim them down, which stimulates further growth and leads to more carbon absorption, same goes for their poo which fertilizes the soil. Additionally, the movement of the cattle encourages a diversity of plant species and soil aeration, enhancing the soil’s ability to store carbon. I have been speaking about this since I myself converted from vegetarian to a farmterian back in 2020. I have been missing the perfect visual to showcase this, though. Until I met Pierre Girard last week. We had the pleasure of sharing the stage at ChangeNOW together and he told me that he made a documentary about regenerative agriculture for ARTE, called Roots. I watched it over the Easter holidays and it is amazing. It explains the basics of regenerative agriculture in 5 short episodes. The scene below is taken from the third episode, which deals with the myth that cows are inherently bad for the climate. I will leave you a link in the comments and can highly recommend to watch it. The clip is in German, but on the ARTE website you can find Roots also in English, Spanish and many other languages. Just to be clear, feedlots should be abolished asap and we all have to eat less meat since we can not keep up current meat consumption with holistically grazing cows. But we have to be able to differentiate between meat from feedlots and meat from cows which are actually regenerating their local and our global ecosystem. #regenerativeagriculture #climatecows #itsthehownotthecow

Great post from Philippe Birker on why we need to put the animals back on the land, managed in grazing systems like the one pioneered by Savory Institute. its NOT the COW. its the HOW. Holistically managed grazing across the worlds Grasslands (Prairie, Pampas, Savnnah, Steppes etc.) can truly turn animal agriculture from the biggest problem to the largest solutions provider, and fast. Today, its the biggest, cheapest and most effective way to address some of the many planetary crisis, including excess GHG in the atmosphere, desertification and land degradation, climate soil resilience to drought and floods and most importantly provide space for all life to thrive while producing food, fibre and leather for people. It's also why I am working with the wonderful teams at Savory Institute and Cultivo to get capital flowing for this to happen FAST and AT SCALE across all continents of the world. The first project is live in Uruguay regenerating 150,000 HA and providing 80 landowners and their communities with training, peep-to-peer, science, data and technology support and a flywheel of significant wealth opportunities linked to asset appreciation though better land management practises. The project is estimated to produce in excess of 210,000 T carbon credits a year for a 10 year, the bulk of which is distributed to the land owners and operators as incentive for creating nature-positive outcomes on their land. We have a portfolio of similar and much larger projects across the world, looking for debt or debt/equity finance and buyers of holistic carbon credits. DM me to hear more Erik Bruun Bindslev Enjoy your weekend. Savory Institute Cultivo Daniela Ibarra-Howell Marta Caballero Felipe Urioste Vidal James Snyder Helen Crowley Manuel Pinuela, PhD
