Finding skilled professional drivers is becoming increasingly challenging in today's market. Therefore, the aim of "joy behind the wheel" is to make interaction with the vehicle and its controlling as easy as possible. By simplifying the vehicle interaction, the driver quickly makes the vehicle its own.
✔ As an example, the redevelopment of the VDL design climate controller is characterised by convenience and simplicity. This in-house designed climate controller was inspired by climate controllers from the automotive sector.
✔ Attention has also been paid to the positions of the various controllers. Through recognition, the driver will quickly find the correct settings on the climate unit.
✔ The new digital dashboard has been developed according to the philosophy “eyes on the road, hands on the wheel”. By applying recognisable and unambiguous messages and controls, the driver will quickly become familiar with using the dashboard and is able to stay fully focused on the road.

PARTNERSHIP: Valeo and Seeing Machines partner on driver and occupant monitoring systems
Automotive supplier #Valeo and #SeeingMachines, a specialist in #AI-powered operator monitoring systems, have announced a strategic collaboration to enhance their position in the driver and occupant monitoring systems (OMS) sector.
Marc Vrecko, CEO of Valeo's brain division, said, “We are delighted with this collaboration with Seeing Machines. These last five years, with [the acquisition of] Asaphus Vision GmbH, we have been able to grow the company, develop their AI perception technologies and build a solid position in interior monitoring systems. Combining our teams with Seeing Machines, we will benefit from the best-in-class perception software to integrate into our hardware and software architecture for driver and occupant monitoring systems.”

Self-driving cars use an insane amount of tech to get from A to B safely. But is all of that needed for parking?
IMHO, self-parking capabilities are following rules that no longer have to exist.
When you're innovating, it's easy to believe you're thinking "out of the box" when you've actually trapped yourself inside a box you don't even see.
And that can lead you to an expensive innovation that's entirely unnecessary.
In 2017, Mercedes-Benz was promoting a self-parking car, which simply took the person out of it. See this clip: https://lnkd.in/ehXGc79t
Which is what most of us think of when we think self-parking cars/
But what if "parking like a human" was missing the point of reimagining what parking could look like?
It's not just about parking the car.
What if parking lot capacity could be doubled without retrofitting the garage?
What if you could just move the car in and out of parking spaces, without the car itself having to do it? (see video in the re-post below)
Parking garages could easily be half the size they are now, or contain twice as many vehicles, without changing the structure or the vehicles themselves.
Considering that the construction cost to build a SINGLE parking spot in a typical city costs between $28,000 to $36,000, how quickly would the payback be for this capability?
How much green space could we get back or prevent from being used in the first place?
Lessons learned?
Sometimes you have to look bigger... much bigger, to see significantly more opportunities.
Systems people call that looking at "super-systems." It's too easy to get stuck with all of the assumptions of the current system, and carry that baggage forward. Bump the problem up a level, and see an entirely different set of options!
And TRIZ (an innovation toolkit created in the 1940s), prompts innovators when they're looking for the next big leap from the current way of doing things to ask "what if our system was made of smart little people? How would they solve the problem?"
I didn't understand this idea the first time I heard it nearly 20 years ago, but essentially it forces you to think as if you could use magic.
Which sounds slightly insane, right?
But instead of thinking of "how do we drive the car into a parking spot without a person?," simply swapping AI for a person, you think "how do we get the car into a parking spot to maximize utilization of the parking garage?," which opens up ideas like "what if we don't have to use the driving wheels to turn? what if we can turn at 90 degrees, without having to move forward or backward?"
If you had people who could lift the car and spin it 90 degrees, what opportunities would that open for parking efficiency? And if you could create enough lift, move and turning power to shrink that down (smart and strong little people) to a smaller footprint than the vehicle, what does THAT do?
