Western Europe's BEV market was unexpectedly kept on the boil in October as new pure-electric passenger car market registrations crashed through 2 million units on a 12-month trailing basis for the first time according to the latest provisional Schmidt Automotive Research data, published in the European Electric Car Study each month. "We're seeing some quite creative ways to discount BEVs currently without directly reducing headline retail prices which would effectively negatively impact residuals and torpedo finance models manufacturers have painstakingly constructed." Look out for more "thousands-off voucher" offers for taking a test drive of a car, OEMs covering government subsidies that have been removed, or customers taking delivery of a young-used BEVs that has been driven for two weeks by employees to get some kilometres on the vehicle, all of which are currently taking place to name three examples. https://lnkd.in/eu6xEKN9

Combined 🇨🇳 OEMs are on track to surpass 200,000 new BEV passenger car registrations across Western Europe on an annual basis during 2024 (2023: 172,500) for the first time, according to the latest European Electric Car Study published by Schmidt Automotive Research. #Tesla, impacted by a cut in state-backed purchase subsidies in both Germany and for the Model 3 in France, thanks to the points-based subsidy system in place there penalising Asian-made models, saw its 12-month trailing volumes continue to tumble across the 18 market region, edging closer to 330,000. #Geely continued to be a major gainer thanks to the #Volvo EX30 introduction, recording a top three most registered BEV model across the region during the opening 5 months of 2024. Are made-in-China EVs about to kick-start price-sensitive Southern European electric car markets, that have become the laggards of the West European plug-in passenger car market? Four of the top five most registered new fully electric BEV passenger cars registered in Spain during the opening 8 months of 2023 were fully or partially manufactured in China according to ANFAC / https://lnkd.in/gHKuDykc.
