What is AVIH in aviation ??✈️ AVIH stands for "Animals Vivant in Hold" or “Animal in Hold” which refers to the transportation of live animals including pets and livestock that can be loaded in the cargo hold of an aircraft. Airlines have specific guidelines and procedures for transporting animals in the cargo hold to ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being during the flight. The Scottish International Air show in Ayr took place yesterday near us. Three RAF Red Arrow jets flew over me and the dog this morning from Prestwick Airport in perfect formation. As I headed home with Bree, our Border Terrier, and while piloting my mobility scooter like a pro ( I have MS), I thought of the V in aviation. V always appears with Veterinary. Time flies in your career, doesn't it? You are the pilot. You are in control. You did all that intensive training before strapping into the captain's seat, and then you get airborne, soaring through your journey of your profession, your vocation. You scan those horizons. You may be searching ahead for a specific destination, or you might just be enjoying the journey. That's up to you! You watch out for good places to land and check out any potential hazards. You can play it safe or push yourself. Before you do a roll, fly under a bridge, or even consider a 4G inverted dive, make sure you've had the proper training and practice. Some errors are inevitable, and you can learn from them to become better, but do try and avoid the big ones! You and your crew are 100% as valuable as each other, so maximum care and attention are required for everyone. There will be bumpy bits and navigation changes, but that's to be expected. Many things you can cope with yourself while other stuff needs the advice of a friend, a copilot, or someone in Air control. Never be in a situation where you feel you're entirely on your own. Make sure your instruments and levels are all working for you in your life. You need to be content, confident, and healthy to fly well. Of course, life can throw some real turbulence at you. Your aircraft may need temporary repairs or even totally grind to a halt on some runway you didn't expect. Things can happen. You were heading for Italy, and you landed in Holland, perhaps. Employ the optimum perspective possible. Be positive if you can and make the best of your situation. Good things can still happen, although not necessarily the things you were expecting. You trained superbly for this, and you possess your vet passport, which is good for so many places you might not even realise. You will prevail!
