👉 Now that the MC4 project is entering its second half, it's time to dive into the recycling methods that are being developed. For the short-term recycling method of glass fibre composites, the idea is to perform a #mechanicalrecycling of the composites by collecting scrap at different steps of its lifespan: uncured composite waste after the lay-up step, then the scrap from the quality testing, and finally, the end-of-life scrap. All of the waste gathered at each step will be sorted thanks to a spectrophotometer and mechanically recycled. The recycling process won’t separate the matrix from the reinforcement but will shred the entire composite material and allow to obtain a shred. The idea after will be to reuse this shredded material as a #filler in new composites and to mix it with virgin glass fibres and epoxy resin foam. 💡 To find out more about what has been achieved till this day, you can follow the link to the article on the MC4 website!
