Paper day is always a happy day! Especially if it comes in pairs :) The first is an extensive review of Attosecond Transient Absorption and Reflection spectroscopy of solid-state samples to study ultrafast electron dynamics. Well done Dr. Lien 👍 I am pleased to congratulate Hao-Pin Lien (連浩評) on the successful defense of his doctoral dissertation "Spray-wall-flow interaction within a gasoline direct-injection (GDI) engine using Large Eddy Simulation". I am particularly thankful to Prof. Tommaso Lucchini, from Politecnico di Milano who was part of the PhD commission. Hao-Pin Lien made an important contribution to our modeling and simulation efforts on high pressure fuel injection and he was an active member of our STFS family. I would particularly like to emphasize his strong involvement in the scientific community. He regularly presented his latest results at the Darmstadt Engine Workshop. At the last meeting of the Engine Combustion Network (ECN9) he was involved in Spray G and M (methanol). I'm curious to see how his story continues. After working as an R&D CFD engineer at KYMCO in his home country, he completed a Master's degree at the The University of Edinburgh. Hao-Pin came to us in Darmstadt on the recommendation of Prof. Brian Peterson. We were able to offer him a scholarship from the Graduate School of Energy Science and Engineering at Technische Universität Darmstadt working in my group Simulation of reactive Thermo-Fluid Systems (STFS), TU Darmstadt Paul worked on four main challenges: 1.   Model development for high pressure gasoline sprays (ECN Spray G). The validation was carried out using international reference data in a constant volume chamber. 2.   Investigation of spray-wall interaction for single and multi-component mixtures. 3.   Investigation of the turbulent flow in an engine flow bench. Using high-resolution wall-resolved LES, he was able to detect non-equilibrium effects and analyze anisotropy. 4.   Investigation of spray development, spray-flow interaction, and spray-wall wetting in an engine flow bench. The detailed comparison with the experiments enabled him to attribute the observed spray asymmetry to the turbulent flow structures, among other things. I look forward to continuing to work with you!
