For the second year in a row, #VCI Fellowship alum, Toussaint Bailey, came and spoke to our fellows about his experience, advice, and learnings from raising Fund I of Uplifting Capital. Toussaint shared extremely useful processes for LP outreach and engagement, brand strategies, and personal reflections with the 2024 cohort – including the profound importance of the #VCI community. “The VCI community should not be taken lightly,” he shared. “You’re going to have points of failure along the way. To have a community to fall back on with other people who are post-failure and have found some version of success, or who are going through some version of failure with you, the support and community that’s required to sustain you through that period is real. It’s not a soft thing.” Thank you once again, Toussaint, for being real with our fellows. It is this type of unfiltered openness and vulnerability that they need to learn the real deal about what to expect and tips to make their journeys better. #diversityandinclusion #impactinvesting #esg #fundmanagers #venturecapital #DiversityInVC #ImpactinAction #emergingmanagers #alternateinvestments #vc #pe #dei

The second part of our Fundamentals 101 series -- coming up May 14th at the Catalyst offices -- will break down for you some essential financial competencies, including financial statements and 990s, impact investing, and activating your endowment. https://lnkd.in/gKEkWVfR Join Moss Adams Senior Manager Matt Dinsdale and Catalyst CEO Megan Thomas to explore financial due diligence and why it's an essential part of grantmaking, including the history and context of how systemic oppression shows up in financial statements and what key indicators funders might rely on for concrete and meaningful analysis of a non-profit’s financial health. After a networking lunch, attendees will dig into the popular topic of impact investing, which is the idea of putting money into initiatives, with the intention of generating a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return. Topics will include how foundations can activate their endowments and program-related investments. Whether you are new to philanthropy or simply looking for a refresher, this program will offer grounding and an opportunity to connect with your foundation peers! (This program is designed for members of Catalyst. If you are interested in becoming a member of Catalyst, please contact [email protected].) #impinv #impactinvesting #skillsbuilding #professionaldevelopment #philanthropy #grantmaking

During the course of raising funds, a phrase (or some version thereof) that we hear from investors is "If I can't understand your product and the value you bring within a few minutes, I am unlikely to want to explore further". Best not to overcomplicate it - got it! If you've got 1-2 minutes, flip through this deck to see who we are, what we do, how it can be beneficial to you and how to get involved! https://lnkd.in/gYJgYbMY
