Our team, comprised of Marco Pozzoni, Giulia Ceccarelli, Andrea Gorrini, Lorenza Manenti, Luigi Sanfilippo, and Alberto Brignone, worked tirelessly to push forward this initiative that directly impacts our community. 🚀🔬 In our project, we delved into the fascinating world of 𝗧𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺, an innovative approach to urban design to temporarily rejuvenate neglected or misused public spaces, returning them to their original purpose. Our research centred on a specific case study in Comune di Bologna, where a temporary school square was created in a local neighbourhood. 🏙️🎨 We analyzed vehicular traffic dynamics in this area, comparing data before and after the Tactical Urbanism intervention. TomTom data allows us to understand how the intervention influenced traffic flow. 🚗🚶♀️📊 The findings of our research were fascinating. Unlike similar cases, we discovered that the Tactical Urbanism intervention didn't lead to "𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻" but positively influenced vehicular flow in certain adjacent areas. This discovery was significant as it helped debunk some common myths about this type of intervention. 🚗🌆🔄 This project was made possible through the collaboration between Transform Transport, the non-profit research foundation launched by Systematica and CitiEU | CitiME. 🤝🏛️ 📑This research work has been published in: ✅ The 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 (https://lnkd.in/e9jwJG-C); ✅ In the 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 (https://lnkd.in/d-aYQ6R5); Visit our webpage https://lnkd.in/e6mAdtJn to get more information about TomTom Road Analytics products and 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁! Only those who don't move from the spot don't step on anyone's toes. #climate change#sustainability #post-growth #mobility #Speaker #EinzugsbegleitungXL
A Mayor with a mobile office: Today I learned something, which I will add to my #bestpractice #sustainability recommendations. In #Bologna, the mayor Matteo Lepore wants to be a mayor of the people. So, since 2022 he moves his office for one week every month to another district of the city. With him, a small team of 4 people, and the districts' responsible politician. Through this, he gets to know the concerns of the people and the economy on a very local level. And can thus move the city radically in a sustainable direction - whether it concerns mobility, school streets, neigbourhood-budget or green space. Bologna can be considered as one of the front-runners in the 15 minutes city, even if it is much smaller than the big players of the 15-minutes city like #Barcelona or #Paris. If you want to learn more about the 15-minutes city, look at this brand new publication: By the way, one of the co-authors Enrica Papa, is part of our @just streets Horizon project, and for sure, many of her findings will feed into creating more inclusive, safer, healthier and more sustainable cities! https://lnkd.in/dafWuXpf #15mC #15minutescity #dut
On the 30th of April, the concluding webinar for Driving Urban Transitions Partnership's exploration of #15minuteCity practices was held. This event provided an enriching platform for dialogue and exchange on international perspectives, strategies, and real-world applications of the 15-minute city concept. Moderated by Benjamin Büttner and Sebastian Seisenberger, the session featured presentations by Benjamin Büttner, Cecília Silva, and Enrica Papa. If you couldn’t attend, don’t worry! You can read the latest #DUT publication, accessible here: https://lnkd.in/gevsWQ2J. Special thanks to the project leaders Benjamin Büttner & Sebastian Seisenberger from the Technical University of Munich and to our friends Cecília Silva & João Teixeira from the Instituto para a Construção Sustentável, and Enrica Papa & Mengqiu Cao from the University of Westminster. We appreciate Maximilian Jäger & Lena Zeisel's support from the AustriaTech.

‘Future Cities—City Futures’ 24/25 In a last update before the summer break, we highlight yet another individual chapter of our recent publication ‘Future Cities—City Futures: Emerging Urban Perspectives’ published by TUDelftOpen of Delft University of Technology. Special thanks to our co-author Pablo van der Lugt! Please check out: Chapter 24: The Potential of Mass Timber Building for Future-Proof Cities by Pablo van der Lugt: “The latest generation of timber products enable complete multi storey neighbourhoods to be built from sustainably sourced softwood. This chapter explores how a large-scale transition to timber building in urban environments could contribute to solving the three major global crises we are currently facing with climate, natural resources, and health. If key external determinants are used to set the right preconditions, by 2030, the combined forestry and construction sectors in Europe could mitigate 23 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions and provide sufficient timber to sustainably meet housing demand in Europe while contributing significantly to the well-being of urban citizens.” KEYWORDS #masstimber; #biobasedbuilding; #climate; #circularity; #healthandwellbeing. Synopsis: "Future Cities—City Futures: Emerging Urban Perspectives" is about future cities and possible scenarios for city futures. A question central to this book is how to face urban challenges while providing and safeguarding positive outcomes, concerned with the improvement of the quality of urban life: How can future cities be made more liveable, sustainable, and resilient? How can cities continue to provide a wide range of opportunities for all necessities of life? To tackle these complex questions, the book includes a collection of 25 articles written by 37 emerging voices in urban design and research. Together, they contribute from a diverse spectrum of interest, expertise, academic disciplines, and practice. Future Cities—City Futures intends to be a platform for trans-disciplinary urban discourse. We are thrilled to announce the approval of our Interreg North Sea Programme proposal, COOL CITIES: Cooling Networks: Reducing Outdoor Heat Stress in Cities! The 4-year project will begin in 2024. Cities in the North Sea Region are confronted with heat stress more often, longer, and with warmer temperatures as a result of climate change. Urban areas tend to experience 4 to 7°C higher air temperature than their rural surroundings, especially during the night. Heat stress leads to public health issues, impairs vital economic functions, and has an impact on the livability of our cities. This groundbreaking project will focus on exploring the potential of cool networks, shaded public spaces and routes, to enhance urban heat resiliency and livability. The proposal was submitted with input from the following knowledge institutions, a sectoral agency and local/regional authorities: Climate Resilient City | Amsterdam University of Applied Science / City Net Zero – Centre of Expertise HvA - Stephanie Erwin and Jeroen Kluck HafenCity Universität Hamburg (HCU) - Wolfgang Dickhaut ZEBAU GmbH - Centre for Energy, Construction, Architecture and the Environment - Jan Gerbitz, Amke Oltmanns and Julia Pleuser Gemeente Arnhem - Hans van Ammers and Henk W. Having delved into “Future Cities—City Futures Emerging Urban Perspectives,” I found it to be a thought-provoking publication that offers a comprehensive exploration of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for our #urban #environments. It offers a comprehensive exploration of #ideas, #observations, and #considerations for urban life and the built environment across different time periods - #past, #present, and #future. The collection presented in this publication is diverse, painting a vivid picture of the potential urban landscapes that could unfold in the coming years. This publication delves into evaluating scenarios of possibility, plausibility, and probability, prompting us to ponder various questions. ◽ How can #future #cities be made more #liveable, #sustainable, and #resilient? ◽ How can cities continue to provide a wide range of opportunities for all necessities of life? ◽ How can the city’s resilience be improved in current and future crises? ◽ How can the city be made future-proof? ◽ How can future cities become more healthy, sustainable, prosperous, enjoyable, safe, and just? ◽ How can the quality of future urban life be improved? ◽ Ultimately, what kind of #cities do we want to live in? While this publication presents a series of ideas, it serves as an invitation for each one of us to engage in introspection. I would certainly complete this reading with “Time to challenge the 15-minute city: Seven pitfalls for sustainability, equity, livability, and spatial analysis” by Kostas Mouratidis. The seven pitfalls highlighted in the text are as follows: (1) Originality (2) Decentralization and polycentricity (3) Quantity versus sufficiency (4) Aggregating facilities (5) Urban nature (6) Public transport and accessibility (7) Walking and cycling Something that truly caught my attention and sparked contemplation was the intriguing alignment between certain ideas presented in the scenarios outlined in the book “Future Cities—City Futures Emerging Urban Perspectives” and those deliberated upon during the “Collaborative Foresight cycle on Futures of Infrastructure in Southern Sweden in 2050” at Media Evolution. This convergence not only piqued my interest but also prompted me to delve deeper into the dynamic nature of foresight exercises. As soon as the book containing the scenarios from our #foresight cycle is released, I will be distributing it. What I am really looking forward to reading myself are the stories crafted by Paul Graham Raven that are depicted in these #scenarios. If it’s still a post about reading recommendations, I also suggest checking out the latest book “Waves of the Blue Sea,” which emerged after another foresight cycle. Here you can not only disconnect with other future scenarios, but also immerse yourself in the narratives of characters inhabiting these worlds, all skillfully penned by Paul Graham Raven. #CityFutures #FutureCities #city #architecture #infrastructure #resilient #regenerative

🤝Today the One Works Foundation handed over the materials of work on the Mykolaiv master plan for 2022 and 2023. The next step is approval and the beginning of a new stage of work on the master plan. 📌 Let me remind you that Mykolaiv is one of the pilot cities that is developing a Master Plan under the auspices of the UN Economic Commission for Europe for full restoration. Over the course of the year, the One Works team and the One Works Foundation worked with COWI to develop strategic guidelines for successful and sustainable redevelopment of the city. As part of this strategy, experts have identified several pilot projects related to five key components of the city: ✅ Innovation and entrepreneurship: a new multifunctional microdistrict focused on science and innovation - Innovation District of Mykolaiv. ✅ Industry and trade: regeneration of the former embankment industrial area into a mixed-use complex and a new multi-use industrial park to support production and logistics. ✅ Housing and community: redevelopment of social housing, including the renovation of existing buildings and the addition of new residential elements. ✅ Culture and heritage: restoration of a heritage and cultural area or building that is especially important to the city and its people. ✅ Green and public spaces: refurbishment and improvement of a key city center or riverside public space to enhance social activity. More details about each of these future pilot projects will be provided in the coming weeks. Each will play a critical role in informing the holistic delivery of the broader vision of master plan. ️Important! The development of the strategic concept master plan is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The development of concepts for water supply, solid waste management and energy is funded by the Danish Government. We will hold a public presentation of the project in Mykolaiv a little bit later. I will continue to inform you about the state of affairs and details of the project.
