Time and again, admissions folks have said that they want your college application to be authentic. That means being honest about your activities. It means letting your own voice come through in your essays. It means answering those short-answer prompts without trying to figure out what "they" want. Most of all, your essay needs to be yours alone. Don't let anyone rewrite it for you. Don't crowdsource the editing with your 10 smartest friends. It's fine to ask one trusted person to read it and give you suggestions, but if you hand it to three different people, you'll get three different opinions, and if you take all their advice, you will take your own voice right out of the essay.
