Endometriosis is a common condition that frequently affects women during their reproductive years. It is characterized by the presence of tissue resembling the uterine lining growing outside the uterus. Common symptoms of endometriosis include painful menstrual periods, pain with intercourse, painful bowels or bladder, and infertility. April is Adenomyosis Awareness Month! Adenomyosis is a lesser-known but significant health condition affecting many women. While different to Endometriosis, women with Adenomyosis often also have Endometriosis. Adenomyosis occurs when the tissue that lines the uterus begins to grow into the muscular walls of the uterus, leading to symptoms such as heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, severe menstrual cramps, pelvic pain, and discomfort during intercourse. It can significantly impact daily life and quality of life for those affected. Awareness is crucial for early detection and appropriate medical care. Throughout this month, let's spread awareness, share information, and support those affected by adenomyosis. Together, we can make a difference by promoting understanding, empathy, and access to resources for better diagnosis, treatment, and support. #AdenomyosisAwareness #SupportWomensHealth

PSA: Pelvic organ prolapse is when the ligaments, connective tissues and muscles that support the pelvic organs stretch, causing the organs to drop down. There are different types of prolapse, including bladder and bowel prolapse, and uterine prolapse. A uterine prolapse is when the uterus (womb) and cervix (opening to the uterus) drop down towards the vaginal entrance and may even protrude outside the vagina. It’s important to see your doctor as soon as possible if you notice any symptoms (e.g. a feeling of heaviness or pressure in your vagina). ✨Vulvodynia (vul-voe-DIN-ee-uh) is a form of chronic pain or discomfort around the vulva, the outermost part of the female genitalia. It lasts at least three months without a discernible cause. The pain, scorching, or irritation associated with vulvodynia can make sitting for extended periods or engaging in sexual activity unbearable. The condition can last for months to years. ✨If you have vulvodynia symptoms, do not let embarrassment or the absence of visible symptoms prevent you from speaking with your gynaecologist or another healthcare professional. Treatments can alleviate your suffering. And your care team might be able to discover a cause for your pain. Therefore, it is essential to obtain a medical examination.
