This is Vari's first L-shaped standing desk. It's an obvious shape and sub-category amongst office desks, so I think it's completely fair to ask what took so long for us to launch a desk like this. In short, a lot! 🪡 Ultimately it was about threading the needle and finding the perfect combination. As a company, we want to bring joy to as many customers as possible, make our products intuitive and easy to assemble, and be priced competitively to bring value to our fans. In addition, we have to do what's right for our business as well (which in turn, always benefits our customers) by keeping inventory and SKU counts at the right levels and shipping costs down. 💻🛠️ The L-shape was something we toyed with numerous times. What you're seeing isn't the first crack at a product - in my five years here it might be at least the third or fourth attempt (with dozens of prototypes and CAD models per attempt). Each time we tried this, we worked ourselves into a corner (pun intended): either aesthetics weren't up to our standards, costs were too prohibitive for fans, or the logistics to produce were too messy. Honestly, we weren't even sure if the customer would even respond to this shape from us. But in the end, what really helped us crack the code was two things: the geometry and the new ComfortEdge. 📐 The overall dimensions of 60" x 80" was the sweet spot. We were able to closely replicate our winning formula of the benching solution of an Electric Standing Desk 60 and Table 60x24 for large corporate projects, but the size also felt perfectly aligned with the home user. Combined with the ability to move the leaf easily for right-hand or left-hand configuration, the geometry felt like the perfect fit with our suite of products. 🤤 The ComfortEdge was the second key. We launched this beautiful, ergonomic front edge on our Electric Standing Desks a few months ago, and when we tried the L-shape with the ComfortEdge, it unlocked the appearance we had desperately searched for. No longer was it a clunky band-aid of a solution, but a visually inviting and sleek shape that becomes a center piece in the workspace or home office. From the time we laid our eyes on the first sample, we knew we had a winner. So yes, it's a desk that's a different shape, but it's also a long product development journey. Rarely is anything linear in our line of work, and what feels like a slog sometimes ends in a burst of discovery.
