VARD has secured a new contract for the design and construction of one stern trawler for the Norwegian owner Havbryn AS. This modern vessel is loaded with technology and digital solutions to be able to catch sustainable seafood using green solutions. Several optimizations in the propulsion system is combined through the SeaQ Microgrid that results in lower fuel consumption and more redundancy. To create safe and efficient vessel operations the vessel will have the SeaQ Bridge with full integration of all the major vessel systems. https://lnkd.in/d2RiaZvy #SeaQ #Vard #integratedbridge #greenoperations #sustainabilityatsea #batteryhybrid #futureonboard

British Columbia is making history with five new electric tugboats, which set an example for clean maritime practices. Switching to hybrid and fully electric tugs cuts greenhouse gas emissions and helps protect marine life. One of the new tugboat owners is HaiSea Marine (owned by the Haisla Nation and Seaspan). Their new tug, the HaiSea Wamis, runs on batteries, significantly reducing emissions, reducing underwater noise, and supporting the economy. Like the Haisla Nation, the Gitga'at Nation is focused on bringing clean energy projects into the community. Their work in sustainable forestry shows how Indigenous communities are driving green progress. Efforts like introducing electric tugboats prove it's possible to protect the environment while boosting the economy. Read more about the electric tugboats: https://lnkd.in/gc2gDkA9

As we head into winter, we’re reminded of when the Väylävirasto / Trafikledsverket / Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency Infrastructure Agency asked us to help power Calypso, a sustainable icebreaker boat. With our partner Turku Repair Yard, we developed a hybrid motorized removable bow. The bow is powered by our Danfoss Editron hybrid-electric system and can be operated remotely. Calypso now efficiently navigates winter temperatures as low as -30°C breaking through ice up to 70cm thick. However, our story doesn’t end there. Our team designed the bow so that it can be integrated into almost any tug system. This means our bow solution could help 15% of the world’s maritime transport in Baltic Sea alone to be more efficient while meeting the everchanging challenges of the maritime industry.
