Exciting news for the offshore wind industry! The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation has partnered with OSW Partners to launch a supply chain concierge service aimed at helping developers, OEMs, and tier 1 companies find the right supply chain partners in the state. The service will work in tandem with RI's SupplyRI program, which sorts companies by expertise to match OSW companies with the appropriate RI companies. This will help reduce project risk and increase efficiency, as OSW Partners will ensure RI companies are equipped with the right information to deliver on projects. Size matters in the offshore wind segment. Specifically, the size of the wind turbine and its direct correlation to the size of the vessel that is to assist in the installation of turbines. 💡 With increasing wind turbine sizes in mind – how large should a future-proof Wind Turbine Installation Wind Vessel be? The decision for the size of Havfram's two vessels (currently under construction) has not been made over night and was a result of close dialogues with turbine manufacturers. Oh dear! Another blow for Norway's 1.5GW Sørlige Nordsjø offshore wind tender as EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG has said its subsidiary Norseman Wind AS won't bid due to problems with the regulatory regime. The company was named as one of five pre-qualified bidders last month, but has now said it will not bid in the tender on 18th March because of concerns about the need to build and own the high-voltage interconnector; and limits on state support. This echoes concerns voiced by fellow pre-qualified bidder Shell last month. The silver lining is this indicates EnBW is showing cost discipline in its bids, and ruling out those where it doesn't feel it can make the numbers work. The firm also said it is still committed to the Norwegian market. But we can't ignore the fact that this silver lining comes with a massive cloud. This means the number of engaged pre-qualified bidders in this tender now potentially stands at just three (if we assume Shell won't be bidding), which is looking a little threadbare. The Port of Hanko Ltd. in southern Finland is to be transformed into a hub for offshore wind, owner and operator Euroports says. The port could provide a useful link in a supply chain that is groaning under the weight of demand in the wake of geo-political issues and the Covid lockdowns. Ninety hectares of the 600-hectare Koverhar Harbour will be dedicated to ‘port activities’, the operator says, with facilities that allow it to accommodate major wind turbine projects and in so doing, ’setting the stage for Koverhar to become a pivotal network hub across the whole Baltic Sea region’.
