The IHO discussed safety, efficiency, and sustainability in #marine activities and how Digital Twins of the Oceans (DITTO) can combine technology with respect for the environment.
At the BUGWRIGHT2 Forum 2024 in Athens, Greece last week, IHO Director Luigi Sinapi highlighted how the IHO Universal Hydrographic Data Model (S-100) and #hydrography as a whole can support the above. By opening the way for near real time #ocean data for example, S-100 can support more efficient shipping thanks to better route planning which factors in #tides and #currents.
Organized by the World Maritime University-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute (World Maritime University), the event brought together experts for the European Union's Horizon 2020 funded project (#h2020) BUGWRIGHT2: Autonomous Robotic Inspection and Maintenance on Ship Hulls, which aims to change the European landscape of robotics for infrastructure inspection and maintenance.
