#lighthouseday One of my favorite places on earth is Kauai. My family and I love to go to "The Garden Island" and have been regularly vacationing there for over a dozen years, or so. On my last visit, as I was sitting on the beach, I couldn't help but see the lighthouses on both sides of the little bay. They seemed so tiny and unimpressive from a distance... until the sun went down and then they served such a mighty -- even glorious-- purpose. These little lighthouses were there to warn the vessels where the sea ended and the dry ground began. They also served as critical navigational markers for those further out at sea. I began to think about that for a moment or two and became more and more fascinated, especially from the perspective of a crew who was lost at sea. I imagined the waves crashing against the wooden vessel, it being tossed and bounced with each big wave... the night being so ominous and black, not even being able to see your own hand in front of your face. Now, imagine being completely afraid, wondering if you would ever find solid ground again... and add months of that dread and despair. Then, all of a sudden, a burst of light from a distant place penetrates this darkness and the fear, the dread, the despair, vanishes and is replaced with a new sense of hope. This transformation shows why so many people are drawn to lighthouses. They represent hope and a safe harbor. I want Lionshare to be that lighthouse and safe harbor for all those we serve and partner with, both our clients and our employees too. No matter how dark, confusing, or challenging the environment around us becomes... the light of hope breaks through! Here is a picture of the lighthouse I was referring to on my visit to Kauai. When building a team, I always look for the skillset or mindset that I don't have. I fill those holes with the talent I don't possess, or our current team does not possess. By creating a well-balanced team full of a variety of skillsets and mindsets, we will challenge how we build, work, and think.
