Worley Engineering Pty Ltd has awarded Velosi to conduct a Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) Study for a major oil and gas facility in the Middle East. The project will be performed by adopting the RAM approach. Furthermore, the RAM study includes all types of equipment directly or indirectly affecting overall performance. Velosi’s expert technical team will efficiently carry out the RAM study and establish the availability by reviewing and compiling the input data, extracting input clarifications with Worley Engineering, and preparing a final report with productive conclusions. Velosi substantially creates a RAM Model for the assessment of principal reliability figures and breakdown of availability losses for the overall system. The model implementation accounts for scheduled shutdowns along with the unscheduled failures of the components. DNV MAROS software will be productively utilized for RAM Analysis. Excited to unveil details about my latest project, designing a crude oil pipeline from Summed Terminal in Ain Sokhna to Cairo Oil Refining Company. This design aims to transport a significant daily volume of 220,000 barrels of heavy crude oil cost-effectively and efficiently. To achieve this, we tackled various aspects, starting with route selection. Utilizing Google Earth, we prioritized a route with minimal elevation changes. This approach maximizes natural gravity flow, minimizing the need for pumping stations and their associated energy consumption. Balancing cost and performance was also crucial; Schedule 40 pipes emerged as the optimal choice, offering a balance between affordability and sufficient pressure tolerance for the pipeline system. However, the true challenge lay in optimizing the pipe diameter. While a larger diameter reduces pressure loss during oil flow, it comes at a higher material cost. Conversely, a smaller diameter is cheaper upfront but might necessitate more pumping stations, leading to increased operational expenses over the long term. To navigate this trade-off, we analyzed the performance of pipelines with varying nominal diameters (6 inches, 8 inches, 10 inches, and 12 inches) using detailed calculations in Excel. These calculations factored in factors like pressure drop, the target flow rate, and both upfront (CAPEX) and long-term operational expenses (OPEX). This comprehensive analysis allowed us to identify the most cost-effective diameter for the Pipeline, ensuring optimal performance while maintaining financial viability.
