The Healey-Driscoll plan just announced ResilientMass, a plan for Massachusetts to adapt and respond to the threats posed by climate change. Forests, saltwater wetlands, and inland wetlands mitigate extreme heat, flooding, poor air quality, and droughts, but climate change places them at high risk. We’re thrilled to see that ResilientMass is prioritizing the protection of these essential lands: https://lnkd.in/enAwsj7J

The bad news: Climate change is real and it is already affecting us with rising sea levels, stronger storms, and hotter summers. The good news: Massachusetts is one of the leaders in the fight against climate change, taking steps to reduce emissions and preserve our ecosystems. But we need to do more to preserve our way of life. Climate change is one of the defining challenges of our time, but the Commonwealth is well positioned to drive forward the green industries the world needs to cut its carbon emissions. I'm proud to support these industries and our continued investments in fighting climate change. https://lnkd.in/eiUK24JP

The 5th National Climate Assessment released today substantiates what we’ve been witnessing on the ground: Extreme heatwaves are already more common, sea level rise is encroaching into coastal communities, and throughout the region, we’re seeing more flooding from increasingly unpredictable, volatile storms. According to the report, the country now sees a billion-dollar weather disaster every three weeks on average. In the 1980s, that average was every four months. Recent federal climate action puts us closer to our emissions goals, but urgent investments in local solutions are needed now more than ever as climate impacts grow across the country. For every $1 dollar we spend on disaster mitigation we save $6. https://lnkd.in/g5muvbFC #NCA5 #NationalClimateAssesment
