Making ZLD Reality: We are pleased to present a video case study of WABAG's Centralized Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) Plant, designed and executed for NMDC Steel Ltd. in Nagarnar. This advanced facility, with a capacity of 180 m³/h, leverages cutting-edge Ultrafiltration and Reverse Osmosis technologies to efficiently manage steel production effluents. The ZLD plant achieves an impressive 90% overall efficiency through a multi-stage process, ensuring wastewater-free production. By recycling and reusing treated effluent as makeup cooling water, a closed water circuit is created, aligning perfectly with sustainable development goals. Attaining the “highest standards of health and safety” is a SOLID part of Amreli Steels' mission statement. True to the statement, Amreli Steels has deployed a state-of-the-art rolling mill at our Dhabeji Unit to make the production of steel rebars more environmentally-friendly. Every year, Amreli Steels recycles more than 300 million kilograms of solid scrap through the refining process to produce rebars. Amreli Steels also ensures the safe discharge of all gaseous and liquid emissions in accordance with NEQS regulations through our reliable PLC Based Air Pollution Control (APC) system. Our APC system removes 1.2 million kilograms of residual dust every year. We also recycle 100% of the water used at our plant for manufacturing steel rebars. The hot charging technology reduces the amount of energy required to produce rebars while cutting CO2 emissions by 50%. Amreli Steels has also installed a 7.1 MW solar power plant to tap into sustainable sources of power generation. We are also working to increase the green spaces around our Dhabeji Plant. The stats above position us as one of the largest recyclers and sustainability-oriented manufacturers among the LSMs of Pakistan. Amreli Steels takes great pride in this position but realizes there is still a lot more to do. Australia's pioneering lower carbon Type GL cement, EvoCem, has hit a major milestone! 📈   Thanks to our customers' support, we've reached over 500,000m3 of lower carbon concrete featuring EvoCem delivered across NSW, VIC, SA, and NT.   Substituting conventional Adbri Type GP cement with EvoCem Type GL cement is making a real difference in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with this milestone resulting in a reduction of 12 million kilograms of CO2-e, as verified by our EPDs.   This reduction is equivalent to nearly 2000 trips around the globe by an average Australian passenger vehicle*. Importantly we’ve achieved this without changing our concrete mix designs or compromising quality.   EvoCem is compatible with Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs), and is an ideal lower carbon alternative for Type GP cement for use in a wide range of concrete applications. Good news for the green building industry! The two leading standards-developing bodies in the U.S., ASTM International and AASHTO re:source (formerly AMRL), have worked together to unify the language used in cement standards. As Craig Hargis, our VP of Products and Fortera product expert, puts it, “This harmonization allows producers to manufacture and produce more easily across states, while facilitating innovation.” Not only does this harmonization effort create uniformity across the industry to streamline processes, but it also allows the inclusion of manufactured calcium carbonate in C150 and C595 cement. Upon adoption with both organizations next year, Fortera ReAct green cement can be utilized seamlessly in any state across the U.S. This is huge for the future of cement decarbonization and a milestone we have been eager to reach. It has been a great pleasure to play a significant role in another environmentally friendly initiative by Lanka AAC Pvt Ltd. The installation of a ball mill process line for grinding bottom ash is a crucial step in managing the bottom ash obtained from the Norochcholai Lakvijaya coal power plant. This plant has a significant amount of land allocated to the disposal of ash, spanning over 20 acres. The disposal of ash in such a manner has led to various environmental issues, including leachate seepage into the water table and dust emissions. Additionally, the floating ash particles have had a substantial impact on adjacent farmlands where crops such as cabbage, beetroot, pomegranate, and dumkola are cultivated. Being involved in the management, supervision, and implementation of the process line design, installation, and commissioning has been a source of great satisfaction. This undertaking represents a valuable opportunity to mitigate the environmental impact of the disposal of bottom ash while harnessing it for the production of AAC blocks, thus effectively utilizing a by-product of electricity generation. #aacblocks #greenproducts #environmentalsustainability #lankaaac #accessengineering #civilengineering
