The American Samoa is one of the most remote service areas in the USDA family, but FSA is fortrunate to have two employees located there. They recently visited the Island Flowers by Liana farm, owned by Peter and Donna Gurr in Maloata, American Samoa. John Boyes from the Office of the Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs also came on the trip to explore FSA program delivery in the South Pacific. The farm is located in a very remote part of the island, about a 1.5 hour drive from the USDA Service Center. Maloata is accessible via the islands main road on the south facing shore if the island. 📸: USDA. 🌾🚜 We're standing by Aussie farming families. Financial hardship can happen to anyone at any time. It doesn’t matter what caused it, support is available through the Farm Household Allowance (FHA). FHA has helped more than 18,000 eligible farmers and their partners doing it tough. It provides targeted support to help farming families assess and improve their situation, including a fortnightly payment for up to four years in every 10. From today, FHA recipients will benefit from the following changes: 🌟 Increase to the base rate of FHA 🌟 Higher rates for eligible single FHA recipients aged 55 and over 🌟 Increase to the maximum rate of Rent Assistance for those who are not in their home. Our goal is to empower farm households during times of hardship, enabling them to plan a way forward to long-term financial security. Everyone who is eligible gets paid. Enjoy the read below from our Windsor Group LLC Region2 Mississippi Hub office, Dr. Willie Taylor DFAP Discrimination Financial Assistance Program Willie P. Taylor, state coordinator: “This opportunity that we're bringing to the table, this $2.2 billion, is an opportunity to change the mindset of not just this generation or the farmers of the past. But it's a program that can actually enhance economic development. It's a program that can actually reopen or revise a farming operation. I deal with quite a few farmers that have thrown in the towel. And we hope that they would take these funds and reconsider staying in the farming business, or enhance the farming operation that they're in at the present time. You can't win the lottery unless you buy a ticket. With the application process, in order to reap the benefits, you gotta put your name in the hat, you gotta complete the application process” #22007apply #DFAP #farmers #ranchers #forestlandowners #ira #aglife #agproducers #usda #teamwindsor

A LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HIGHER AND LOWER PROFIT FARMS IN ILLINOIS AS INCOMES CHANGE There are many differences between the high one-third and low one-third farms in Illinois. As we see in a subset of FBFM farms that are in central Illinois, the differences also can be impacted based on their income levels. When looking at expenses, we can see in general buildings, labor and other costs (insurance, miscellaneous, non-land interest charges, etc) are typically much lower for the higher profit farms when incomes are lower on average. The opposite is true for land costs. They are typically much lower for the higher profit groups during periods of higher incomes. As farmers are planning for the 2024 season, keep in mind some of these thoughts and observations. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gR84jZEP #farms #illinois #income #expenses #profit #land

𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁—𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀? According to Heather Schlitz in Reuters, Kansas farmers are facing severe financial distress due to low crop prices, high costs, and decreased government support. This economic strain is affecting local businesses and communities, leading to potential farmland sales and increased housing development opportunities. Key points include: • 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀: U.S. farm income is forecast to fall 25% from last year, significantly impacting Kansas farmers. • 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Local businesses report a 20-30% decline in revenue, leading to economic struggles in small towns. • Potential for Housing Development: The financial challenges facing farmers may lead to farmland sales, opening new opportunities for housing development. While no one wants to see farms fail or farmers go through hard times, these financial challenges could lead to more housing development, which is something the country desperately needs. Real estate and mortgage companies should monitor these trends to identify emerging markets and strategically plan for growth. While the challenges facing farmers are concerning, they also present opportunities for housing development. By staying informed and proactive, real estate and mortgage companies can strategically map out future opportunities.
