It's #ChesapeakeBayAwarenessWeek, so we're highlighting the recent tidal marsh planting efforts underway following #dredgematerial placement at Maryland's Deal Island Wildlife Management Area as part of our maintenance of the federal navigation channel on the Wicomico River. 🌾 The dredge material, comprised mostly of silt and sand, is beneficially placed for #wetlands restoration meant to increase migratory bird nesting #habitat in the #ChesapeakeBay watershed. #usace #corpsofengineers #dredging #beneficialuse #migration #marsh #birds #conservation #DealIsland Maryland Department of Natural Resources

Our current (and final for 2023) expedition takes the #CorpsofExploration aboard #EVNautilus south of the equator to #JarvisIsland, one of the most poorly mapped areas under US jurisdiction, where our high-resolution bathymetric #seafloormapping will add to the world’s baseline knowledge of this poorly studied part of the #PacificRemoteIslandsMarineNationalMonument (#PRIMNM). Jarvis Island encompasses approximately 1,100 acres of emergent #reef and land and 36,342 acres of submerged lands. The island is currently managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) as part of the Pacific Remote Island Area Refuge Complex.

"The New Grand Strategy describes a business plan for America, born at the Pentagon, that embeds sustainability as a strategic national imperative." A part of that plan involves shifting oil out of fuel stock and using it for advanced materials. What's your solution to keep the planet healthy for humans? Today at noon Central time share your thoughts at 800-99-NATIV
The Biden Administration reversed oil leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), earning praise from environmental advocates and #Alaska #Native wildlife and subsistence hunting protectors. But the move also received criticism from Alaska Native corporations and the state's entire congressional delegation. We’ll look at the ongoing political back-and-forth that defines the pristine but resource-rich tundra of Alaska. Plus, a preview of what could be an historic marine sanctuary set-aside initiated by the Chumash Tribe in California. GUESTS Bernadette Demientieff (Gwichyaa Zhee Gwich’in), executive director of the Gwich’in Steering Committee Violet Sage Walker (Chumash), chairwoman of the Northern Chumash Tribal Council Mia Lopez (Coastal Band of the Chumash Nation), advisor for the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary and former chairwoman of the Coastal Band of the Chumash Nation Andy Moderow, senior director of policy at the Alaska Wilderness League https://lnkd.in/ezBup28G

Wonderful news that the Government has called off the new Tioman Airport project. One hopes that this project is not only shelved, but shelved forever! The EIA was clear - it’ll cause environmental devastation for at least 7 years throughout the building process, but it’ll take years (decades!) to rebuild. Tioman relies quite heavily on tourism - which is dependant on the marine ecosystem around it. The healthier the reef, the more attractive Tioman becomes. I’d argue it’s not just the island that would’ve suffered. The entire economic corridor leading to #Tioman island would be affected. These corridors house Malaysian SMEs who also rely on travellers heading there via the Mersing or Tanjung Gemok jetties. Now strategies, funds, and plans can focus on making Tioman, and the entire adventure leading to her, more suitable for #SMEs to thrive, and more sustainable for the future! 🌱🐠🐡

The government has decided not to pursue the proposal of a new Tioman International Airport that will involve massive reclamation works impacting the marine park. Much of the island is also a wildlife reserve.

That's indeed a significant development! The decision to cancel oil and gas leases in the Arctic wildlife refuge by the Biden administration reflects a commitment to environmental conservation and addressing climate change. This move aligns with efforts to protect sensitive ecosystems and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. It will be interesting to see how this decision impacts the future of energy exploration and conservation in the region. #sustainability, #climatechange, #investment, #climatefinance, #impactinvestment, #FUTUREEngineNet, #RougeInternational.

The federal government in the U.S. possesses approximately 620 million acres of land, which accounts for about 27 percent of the total land in the country. Interestingly, the vast majority of federally owned acres, roughly 92 percent, are concentrated in 12 Western states. The management of this extensive land falls under the supervision of four key federal agencies - the U.S. National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service. Together, these agencies oversee nearly 95 percent, equating to approximately 608 to 610 million acres, of federal land. 🌲🏞️ #FederalLand #USGovernment #ConservationEfforts

Landing and taking off from bush runways during our missions are exciting, but also need serious attention! By driving the runway at high speed, we can detect and address any bumps or irregularities that could pose a danger during takeoff or landing - especially wildlife! 😀This thorough process minimises risks and ensures smooth, safe operations for our vital conservation missions. #BushRunwaySafety #AviationStandards #TheBateleurs #ConservationFlights #SafetyFirst
