Athletes struggle to “fix” things that are leading to bad results. Oftentimes it’s because they’re telling themselves what they don’t want to do wrong again instead of what they need to do right! As simple as it sounds, athletes do the wrong thing over and over again for this very reason. The vertical jump. Just watch these two perform the vertical and see the very different movement strategies. Guy #1 squats all the way down which allows him more time to produce force into the ground. Guy #2 does less than a quarter squat which leads to the need to produce that force very quickly. It does not really matter what type of strategy an athlete uses, but it can tell a coach a lot about what they need to work on. Being able to produce equal forces faster will always succeed in sports.
