Franchise Head Ophthalmology at Roche working to deliver transformative treatments for people with vision loss. Skilled in Retinal Diseases, Pharmaceutical Markets, Market Access.
The start of a new year is often a good time to reflect on the prior year and plan for the next. I am truly excited about the coming year for Ophthalmology at Roche, with a number of initiatives ongoing across different molecules and for different populations. As I reflect on 2023, we made great strides in our mission to advance eye care. There are more highlights than I can cover, but here are just some that stood out for me personally: We kicked off the year with the 2023 Angiogenesis, Exudation and Degeneration annual meeting - which showcased examples of how innovations are advancing eye care. From AI aiding in diagnosis and treatment, to the utilisation of real-world data to address unmet clinical needs, the ophthalmology community was able to come together to take part in vital discussions and share insights. On our part, Roche was able to share exciting phase III data from across our Ophthalmology franchise, the first of many exciting data announcements made through the year. Deloitte and International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), with the support of Roche, collaborated to create the ‘Investment in eye health to prevent sight loss’ (https://lnkd.in/ekGF2Hax) policy paper. The valuable insights within this report emphasised the current challenges in eye healthcare in practical and digestible terms, something I believe is vital if we are to make genuine progress as a community. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read the paper. World Sight Day, as always, was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the importance of eye healthcare. It was especially inspiring to see so many people using #LoveYourEyes to share how and why they value eye health. I’d like to congratulate International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) for this effective campaign, reinforcing the importance of prioritising eye health in our day-to-day lives. Please do ‘Love Your Eyes’ and have your regular eye exams. As we look forward to 2024, I would like to ask you - what was your ophthalmology highlight from last year?
