In case you missed it, #OSHA has released a proposed heat standard. Here's a summary of what's inside: Excessive workplace heat is a leading cause of weather-related deaths in the U.S. From 2011-2022, 479 workers died from environmental heat, and thousands more suffered heat-related injuries and illnesses. Heat-related incidents are vastly (40-50x) under-reported. The proposed standard from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration represents a significant change from current practices, requiring employers to adopt comprehensive, proactive measures to safeguard workers in all industries. 💡 Unlike existing guidelines, this new standard mandates specific, actionable steps for both outdoor and indoor environments. 🔑 Key Requirements: 1) Develop a 'Heat Prevention Plan' to evaluate and control heat hazards. 2) Monitor Heat Conditions with regular tracking of heat index or wet bulb globe temperature. 3) Implement Control Measures: ➡ At 80°F: Provide cool drinking water, shaded break areas, and acclimatization protocols. ➡ 🌡 At 90°F: Mandatory rest breaks, monitor for heat illness symptoms, issue hazard alerts, and post warnings in high-heat areas. 📑 How the proposed standard is different from existing practices: 1) Comprehensive Planning: Requires detailed, site-specific heat hazard plans. 2) Specific Monitoring: Mandates regular tracking of heat conditions, not just general guidelines. 3) Proactive Measures: Introduces mandatory breaks and cooling measures at specified heat thresholds. 👋 If you'd like to discuss how wearable technology can help address gaps in your heat safety practices, please feel free to reach out. #SafetyFirst #WorkplaceSafety #OSHA #HeatStress #WearableTech #EmployeeHealth #WorkerSafety #HydrationMonitoring #IndustrialSafety #Innovation #DigitalHealth #IndustrialAthletes #ClimateChange #Construction #HeatSafety #Offshore #Energy

2wContractors are not a fan of the rule and are a bit heated themselves. But instead of throwing shade on the rule they need to keep their cool. Take a break or give it a rest all together. The situation is definitely fluid but one thing is certain: heat is a known hazard we are required to mitigate per the general duty clause.
