It’s National Dam Safety Awareness Day! Dam safety programs help those responsible for dams monitor them to reduce risks to the public. The #USACE Omaha District’s Dam Safety Program helps ensure its dams continue to provide their intended benefits as safely as possible. Here are a few photos from a periodic inspection that occurred earlier this month of the Pawnee Dam located northwest of Lincoln, Nebraska. The Pawnee Dam is one of ten dams located along the Salt Creek Valley that help manage flood risk in and around the city of Lincoln. It’s important to remember that no dam is risk-free.
