Day 22: Double Header -Regular Sick vs CF Sick- CF is a tricky thing to navigate especially when you have to deal with being sick but not all sick is created equal. In the CF world we know there's regular sick and CF sick. The things that differentiates these are sometimes a thin line and sometimes a large gap, but one thing for sure is when you become CF sick intervention needs to be taken this is generally in the form of antibiotics and possible hospitalizations. To continue celebrating Patient Safety Awareness Week, check out this quality improvement project from a 500-bed acute care hospital. The MICU faced the highest hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) rate across their Integrated Delivery Network (IDN). The solution? Integrating long-wave infrared thermography (LWIT) [skin temperature assessment] into their existing 4-eyes within 4-hours skin assessment. The results? ✅ 85% Decrease in HAPI Incidence. ✅ Cost Reduction of $906K in a Single Critical Care Unit. ✅ Creation of Interprofessional Collaborative for HAPI Prevention. ✅ 5-eyes assessment protocol across the entire IDN w/ EMR integration.
