Who didn't love putting contests as a junior golfer? Playing against your friends for £1, for golf balls or event for a plate of chips, these were serious events. They were more than that though, they allowed us to bond over short contests whilst working on the most important parts of our games. They made us feel like we belonged as part of the junior golf scene at our clubs. In our 11th White Paper, we addressed the issue of belonging. Making new golfers feel like they belong as part of the golfing community is crucial to grow our sport. One idea is to build leagues at your club so that people we can foster this feeling of fun competition and build that feeling of belonging. Discover how to build your golf business by leaning-into making people feel like they belong: https://lnkd.in/eXRvRKPS 📸 : Lukas Opekar (Unsplash)

Golf, traditionally constricted to the suburbs and exclusive clubs, is undergoing revolutionary changes. As urban golf becomes readily available, the sport as a whole is becoming more accessible and inclusive than ever before. In the video below, Erik Anders Lang speaks about the Skyway Golf Course. Built on a former toxic dump in Chicago, this course exemplifies the transformative power of urban golf. This thriving hub showcases the sport's potential to revitalize neglected spaces and contribute to community development. Another transitioning to… post, but this time I’m not talking about energy but a different type of transition! This summer, I made a significant transition from playing Amateur Rugby to Coaching it. With my 30th birthday just around the corner and my knee just about giving up (stereotypical I know), it became clear that my playing days are nearing an end - maybe the odd appearance here or there left in the tank. Joining the coaching setup at Skipton RFC proved to be the logical next step in my journey, to ensure I stay connected to the sport I love, however this step comes with its own host of challenges not only for me but also for our players. Having one of your fellow players step into a coaching role is definitely something to get used to. It's been interesting to see how close the similarities are with the business world, for example where one minute you can be part of a team, and the next you could be leading that team - that emotional navigation and personality management experience can be extremely consistent between sport and the professional world - although I’m unsure if I can suggest a boat race (pint downing race) after each team meeting like we can in rugby. While I am confident in my ability to help the team climb the Yorkshire Leagues, I can't deny the transition is daunting! I’m planning on sharing my experiences on becoming a coach, as well as commenting on business similarities and how I navigate these challenges, be that successfully or not! On a final note, if you are local to Skipton and have been interested in trying out Rugby or want to get back into the sport, come on down - you now know one of the coaches! Oh and are there any sponsors out there interested in getting us some new flood lights? It’s getting hard to see in the dark! #getskiptonrfcnewfloodlights

It’s no secret that golf has changed over the last few years. For better or worse? Are we heading for a fractured industry where golfers either play on a course OR off-course at a range/entertainment location or can we bridge the gap? Interesting article here by Gather
Simulators, mini-golf, @topgolf, Driveshack, Popstroke…the ways in which people can consume golf are growing fast! However, many of these non-traditional golfers don’t feel like they belong at green grass golf clubs. How do we change this? Does the golf industry need to change this? Or are we simply seeing the creation of a new and separate culture within the golf eco-system? Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eXRvRKPS 📸: Waldemar on Unsplash
