Reliable always on power. Nuclear is a super critical part of an all of the above solution to climate change. (Pun intended)
Constellation Energy Corp has filed a 20-year licence renewal application for the Clinton nuclear power plant in Illinois, which it says would allow the plant to continue providing carbon-free energy to the region until 2047 with adequate market or policy support. https://lnkd.in/dM7HHhFy

Responding to growing demand, Duke Energy, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Nucor Corporation execute agreements to explore new and innovative approaches to support carbon-free energy generation to help utilities serve the future energy needs of large businesses in North Carolina and South Carolina. The announcement was made at The White House Summit on Domestic Nuclear Deployment. In memorandums of understanding (MOUs) signed this month, the companies proposed developing new rate structures, known as “tariffs” in the utility industry, designed specifically to lower the long-term costs of investing in clean energy technologies like new nuclear and long-duration storage through early commitments. We are all better when we can share and learn from one another – that’s true for utilities also! Groups such as North American Transmission Forum, Inc., North American Generator Forum, and Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) have provided forums for transmission, generation, and nuclear power operators to share and promote operational excellence for those functions. We launched EPRI's Distribution Forum (DxF) last year to collaborate through a structured platform to exchange insights, share and document leading practices, and tackle industry challenges in a confidential setting. Best of all, DxF members can leverage EPRI research results and subject matter experts to drive progress and refine leading distribution operations. More than thirty energy companies and seventy distribution operating companies are already participating. Any organization operating distribution systems in North America is invited to join and help shape the future of electric distribution! Let me know if you’re interested to know more. https://lnkd.in/e8zgegtk

This Ohio plant wants to be the first in the U.S. to supply small modular nuclear reactors with HALEU — high-assay, low-enriched uranium. But SMRs still haven’t gotten a foothold in the U.S., and a study suggests they may not be the most economical energy source when compared to solar, wind and other burgeoning #renewables.
As nuclear fuel plant opens in Ohio, can small reactors compete? | Energy News Network

MODULARITY SPEED = SUCCESS The figure below is a great example of this formula. Think solar, wind, batteries, EVs, transmission lines ... anything that can be built like Lego, building big from small. It's the secret to getting big things done – including resolving the climate crisis, or so Dan Gardner and I argue in our book, "How Big Things Get Done": https://lnkd.in/eWRX74gE China is better at it than any other geography, as the diagram illustrates. Which should make the rest of the world sit up and get their act together, or they risk being outcompeted over the next few decades..
Solar power this century. In 2023 about 450 gigawatts were installed worldwide. To put that in perspective, a fair sized nuclear plant is about 1 gigawatt. #EnergyTransition
