Thanks WoodoaksFarm for a lovely afternoon of volunteering. Fourteen colleagues braved changeable weather to pull weeds, spread mulch and enjoy an educational tour of the beautiful farm and its enterprises. It was a fantastic opportunity to see where Urenco’s support is helping to promote sustainable practices, as Woodoaks is transitioning to become fully organic, and encouraging organisations that are passionate about working towards a net zero future.

We're thrilled to share the experience of our YPN team at the International Youth Nuclear Congress in Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪 #IYNC2024. During the past three days, our young professionals have been immersed in nuclear discussions from topics that span the entire industry while having the unique opportunity to experience the local culture. Here are some highlights: 💬 Our team have been privileged to listen to speakers discussing global challenges from energy demand, clean water desalination, through to the creation of reliable vaccines for animals to support farming and agriculture and the use of AI and robots within the nuclear sector. 🌐 Our team have been networking along 300 professionals from different 47 countries, expanding our global connections. 👩💼 Members of the team attended the Women in Nuclear IAEA (WiN IAEA) dinner, fostering connections and supporting inclusion and diversity. 🏙️ The team explored the stunning architecture of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. This conference embodies the spirit of innovation and cultural exchange that Urenco values. A big thank you to the organisation and all the amazing people our team connected with so far!

One of the highlights of an event-packed September was Boris Schucht's remarks at the World Nuclear Symposium in London, where he emphasised the advantages SMRs and AMRs, and how they are going to help us triple #nuclearenergy capacity by 2050. Read more below: https://lnkd.in/eQ7shK2t

Thames Hospice welcomed colleagues from our head office for a day's volunteering in the charity's Home Studio centre in Maidenhead. The team worked hard repairing, sanding and painting items of furniture to give them a new lease of life. This enables the charity to resell them, raising much needed funds for hospice care. Employees are gifted a full day of volunteering every year by Urenco. Thanks also go out to our head office donations panel which contributed £750 to the charity's funds in recognition of the team's efforts.

This week our Young Persons Network committee is joining the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) in Abu Dhabi (UAE). With over 350 participants from all over the world and 47 countries represented, conversations revolved around 'Youth powering the Future'. Louie Swallow represented Urenco during the ‘Sustainability within the Nuclear cycle’ panel this afternoon and he addressed how Urenco’s sustainability strategy supports the #netzero targets. #netzero #IYNC2024

We were honored to welcome the Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, Lord Hunt, to our Capenhurst site on Wednesday (2 October). His visit provided an excellent opportunity to highlight our contribution to the #nuclearfuel supply chain and our key role in supporting new #nuclear initiatives in the UK, as well as the UK Government’s mission to become a clean energy superpower by 2030. On his visit, Lord Hunt toured our flagship enrichment plant, E23, as well as the site of the UK’s HALEU facility, which is being supported by £196 million of UK Government co-investment. Discussions centered around the UK’s commitment to enhancing domestic fuel cycle capabilities, benefiting not only the UK but also its global allies, while driving innovation and research. The Minister also met with a group of Urenco apprentices, who spoke about their aspirations for the future. #Nuclearenergy will play a pivotal role in achieving a #sustainable and secure energy landscape and is bringing us one step closer to achieving #netzero.

A new study commissioned by the Canadian Nuclear Association shows the growth of #nuclearenergy in the country. Over the last five years, the Canadian nuclear workforce has grown by 17%. That’s equivalent to 89,000 jobs. The sector’s growth means the sector contributed 16.3 USD billion a year to Canada’s GDP—a 30% increase since 2019. This great level of growth has been fuelled by successful plant refurbishment projects and a greater recognition of the key role of #nuclearenergy in achieving a #netzero future and enhancing #energysecurity. https://lnkd.in/evGS4u-7

Great to meet young professionals at the Science Museum STEM Circle Early Careers Networking event, helping to upskill them in #stem through speed networking and facilitated breakout groups led by industry professionals. Our sessions proved popular on ‘dangerous conformity in the workplace’ and ‘creative careers in STEM’. A career in #nuclearenergy can be a fulfilling journey, so we were happy to see so many smiling faces excited about enriching their futures.

Good news for #nuclearenergy in Switzerland, where a new survey conducted by the Leewas Institute has shown that over half of the population supports the government's announced plan to lift the ban on constructing new nuclear power plants. Switzerland currently operates four nuclear reactors, generating about one-third of its electricity. The country’s Federal Council has highlighted that recent changes in the electricity market and pressing climate targets, have fundamentally altered the landscape, with the focus now shifting towards #sustainable energy solutions. It's exciting to see more countries recognising the critical role of #nuclearenergy in achieving a #sustainable future and delivering #netzero goals. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e7mpsRwu

At the European Nuclear Society’s (ENS) TopFuel 2024 event Magnus Mori, Head of Market Development &Technical Sales, expanded on Urenco’s plans to develop its international advanced fuels offering. At the plenary session on the ‘Needs &Challenges of Fuel Design and Development for SMR/AMRs (Small Modular Reactors and Advanced Modular Reactors), Magnus Mori said: “Work has already started at our UK site to develop a first-of-its-kind High Assay Low Enriched Uranium (HALEU) facility with UK Government backing and we continue to refine our production programme for LEU - product required to power the nuclear reactors of the future - both in Europe and in the United States.”
