Will post to LinkedIn jobs…DM for now… Partnership/Investment Opportunities (with and without real estate) We have just a couple groups that are in need of a modest amount of “last mile” funding to get the doors open. Equity, debt, strategic funding…open to ideas - minority interests only! Operational possibilities, too.. Proven chief executive, corporate strategist, and operational officer in highly regulated industries, particularly in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and agricultural laboratory industries
So I'm probably going to touch a nerve with this post, but I think someone needs to say it. In the cannabis industry, the position of Lab Director is one of the most misunderstood and "abused" positions at compliance facilities. I can't tell you how many business owners start a lab then look to hire a Director, but then require that person to: -setup the laboratory from scratch -Write Company ISO17025:2017 program -Hire proper personnel -Run HR -Develop pricing strategies -Validate all the testing -Develop new methods and services -Run day to day operations -Direct Sales positions -Liaison with regulatory bodies -Run QA/QC of daily operations as well as audits ISO17025:2017 and state regulatory audits -"Fill in" on the bench when needed - Review data - Release COAs - Write SOPs - Write Policies - and anything else that comes to mind by the owning partners all for as low as possible and usually less than $90k, poor benefits, and no equity. This is not the description of a Lab Director. This a description of a CSO or COO and an equity partner. People wonder why established scientists don't want to get into the cannabis industry, well, this is why. You're asking someone with an advanced degree and experience in biotech/pharma to do a Chief Science Officer or Chief Operating Officer job for the salary of a biotech/pharma Lab Manager (low-balled at $50k-$70K) and leave them holding the bag when things "go wrong". What do you expect to happen? You don't pull the best and brightest from established industries without matching job duties and salaries. And honestly, if you want that person to build your business for them, wouldn't it be smart to tie them to the business with equity so they have a stake in the businesses success? Alright rant complete and I'm getting off of my soap box.

If actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. -John Quincy Adams
10 years ago, I left my management job at Downtown Denver Forever 21 where I lead a team of 55, we did about $8million in sales annually and had over 1 million skus. The store was 2 stories, we had 3 entrances and 20 cash registers. I was offered another job across the street with the same pay and only 5 employees, this was with a promise or expectation of the opportunity to become a District Manager for them and over see thier 3 stores in 2 states. It was a smaller company. I had the opportunity to work with the buyers and the vendors. I set up and staffed a "Superbowl Headquarters" store on 16th st mall and lead that through the incredibly disappointing loss from the Denver Broncos. I was there only for the 1st quarter of the year and they let me go saying they took such a loss on the Bronco inventory they couldn't afford me. At that time I was offered a Management Position at Euflora, the 1st Cannabis store to open on 16th Street Mall in Denver. I turned it down because they only offered me $17 an hour. At that time, I had been working as a retail Manager for more than 10 years and was making almost $60k. I went on unemployment instead which was the dumbest decision I ever could have made. I started completely over in my career as a "Budtender" working for The Green Solution making $11 an hour. It was the busiest store in the Denver area at the time, we would see 400 customers a day, it was non stop. I bartended at night at the American Legion. My saying was, "budtender by day, bartender by night" I have a Bachelor's degree in Business and over 20 years of leadership experience. I can now say I have 10 years experience working in the Cannabis industry. I have Managed Recreational and Medical Cannabis stores, I worked as a Compliance Manager in a Cultivation Facility. I am experienced in Marketing and Promotions and holding events to boost patient counts, I produced several successful events in the Florida Medical Market. I'm currently a Metrc Administrator for a small medical retailer making less money than the 1st cannabis job I was offered 10 years ago. I don't get any benefits or holiday pay. I'm always open to new opportunities, so if your looking for a skilled leader that understands business and human resources and also knows how to navigate the regulatory complexities of this business please reach out or pass my name along. I'm super grateful for my job, but I deserve so much more. (This was written by me and not Chat GPT so excuse me if I didn't use a lot of big words or proper Grammer, but I like to keep it real. 😆)
