What came first, the community or the user? In our latest roundtable, our product team explores how to tackle community-centered design without losing sight of the fact that communities are made up of individuals. We learned a lot—including the fact that we have a Craigslist superfan among us. #communityproducts

We try. We learn. We change and adapt. That's one way to say that Durran's new deck is here! While working with different clients last year, I focused on understanding what works and what doesn’t in our offerings. (A nice way to say that I was wrong countless times.) The updated deck reflects these learnings: - Who we work with - How we can best help - What we've done for other clients Penny once again helped us put ideas into words, and Maria, our own designer, assisted with the design. Whether you're interested in working together or simply want to take a look, drop me a message or leave a comment, and I'll send it over. #uxdesign #productdesign

This article outlines Geri Reid's journey in enhancing accessibility within a multi-brand design system. https://lnkd.in/dcaxwnGk The post delves into their process of auditing their Sketch libraries, alongside designing and implementing fixes to achieve more accessible components. It's noteworthy how they leveraged external experts for audits and insights on testing methodologies. As highlighted in the post, while accessible components are crucial, they alone won't address all product challenges. Hence, the importance of establishing supportive programs for product teams. Congratulations to Geri and team! #accessibility #designsystems

👋 Today I'm publishing an article about how I and Miguel Pinto built a design system for multi-brands and multi-platforms at 7Mind GmbH. In the article, you can find a good set of insights and lessons learned, including: - Tech stack setup - Failures and big lessons - Screenshots and diagrams - Strategy and big considerations - Automated code generation setup I'm super happy and satisfied with the results so far as Bliss has fueled one app and is currently being used to build a second one with pretty good results so far. So I felt I would share our recipe with others going through similar challenges. 👋 If you would like to ask me anything about design systems or related topics, feel free to reach out via comments or DMs.

My friend, Aaron Krauss, has a wonderful talk on “Designing with Developers in Mind.” If you are a UX/Product Designer this talk will answer many questions you have when dealing with developers. One of my favorite talks from Techlahoma Foundation’s OKC Design Tech 2023 series. Check it out!

This is a call out to everyone working in Product & Design. If you are interested in expanding your team's toolbox and overall approach, we have got something for you. The Pebble team has spent the past year publishing our design, research and innovation approach in the form of short playbooks, and we're still at it. We have just updated a lot of the content within them and they are looking great. We have got 3 key playbooks that we'd like to highlight for your attention. 1) The Fundamentals— a playbook that explores the basics of our approach (frameworks, methodologies, processes & principles.). This playbook is great for those of you who are trying to form a common language and approach within your team around all things product, design, research and innovation. https://lnkd.in/e-2m29Cz 2) Forming points of view— a playbook that takes the theory introduced in the fundamentals playbook and explores the way one could use it to start bringing concepts to life. https://lnkd.in/eXr5rU_2 3) The Concept HQ— our favourite and most important of the three playbooks as it takes the theory explored in the other two and starts putting it into practice. The Concept HQ is a central place for you and your team to capture, articulate and cultivate your point of view with regard to the concept and user at hand. https://lnkd.in/gunjTSPj All our playbooks are freely available to read and learn from and some, such as the Concept HQ are also available in editable format. We are putting these playbooks out there in an attempt to support the product and design community and expand our practice as a whole. Let us know what you think.

How many people use Figma’s variables in their design systems? If you don’t that’s fine, they aren’t for every design system. However, if you have considered using variables I highly recommend it. Variables have been a game changer that transformed our design system and made the developer handoff almost a 1:1.
