What happens to a tree in the summer 🤔 It grows, of course 🌳 How much do the trees then grow in Finland in a year 🤔 See the answer at the end of the post! 🌲 Naturally, the growth is important from the sawmiller's point of view, but it is also crucial for mitigating climate change. As the tree grows, it absorbs carbon from the air - this is why timber products act as long-term carbon stores. In the summer, both photosynthesis and carbon sequestration are in the full run. Early summer is growth-centered - the tree grows taller at the top and tips of the branches and thicker at the trunk, roots and branches. In mid-summer, the tree begins to focus on energy storage rather than growth, and in late summer it stops growing. Photosynthesis continues, but instead of growing, the tree accumulates energy stores under the bark and in the roots. It starts preparing for winter well in advance. In 2023, 104 million cubic meters of new stem wood grew in Finland and the total volume of the wood increased by 21 million cubic meters (source: Luke). 🌲🌲🌲🌲 Originating from a forest grown by a Finnish forest owner, UPM Timber's high-quality timber is an excellent choice for demanding applications.
