What happens to a tree in the summer 🤔 It grows, of course 🌳 How much do the trees then grow in Finland in a year 🤔 See the answer at the end of the post! 🌲 Naturally, the growth is important from the sawmiller's point of view, but it is also crucial for mitigating climate change. As the tree grows, it absorbs carbon from the air - this is why timber products act as long-term carbon stores. In the summer, both photosynthesis and carbon sequestration are in the full run. Early summer is growth-centered - the tree grows taller at the top and tips of the branches and thicker at the trunk, roots and branches. In mid-summer, the tree begins to focus on energy storage rather than growth, and in late summer it stops growing. Photosynthesis continues, but instead of growing, the tree accumulates energy stores under the bark and in the roots. It starts preparing for winter well in advance. In 2023, 104 million cubic meters of new stem wood grew in Finland and the total volume of the wood increased by 21 million cubic meters (source: Luke). 🌲🌲🌲🌲 Originating from a forest grown by a Finnish forest owner, UPM Timber's high-quality timber is an excellent choice for demanding applications. In line with our customer promise Setting the Standard, we offer our customers responsible products from sustainably managed forests, so our customers can also offer responsible solutions to their customers. Between 2003 and 2019, 20% of all the clear-cut forest in Sweden was old-growth. This means a sizeable share of forest products, such as timber, paper and bioenergy, comes from old trees. The losses to unprotected old-growth forests amount to 1.4% per year, which means they will be lost completely by the 2070s if the trend continues.

Our PNW forest products industry struggles to ignore our rear view mirror. There are still some old forests similar to those harvested in the past that are visible through our windscreens. They aren’t nearly as commonplace, they have more legal restrictions on their uses and they are rarely found on private property. But they are still out there. Some forest products- not yet completely replaced by human-engineered products- are still reliant upon those remaining old forests. Furthermore, the TIMO’s forests that are more commercially important today- even aged plantations harvested at financial maturity- are hidden away behind locked gates. It’s easy to lose sight of where our industry is going.

🌍 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲! 🌳 #HolzrettetKlima! As a partner of the Deutsche Säge- und Holzindustrie (DeSH), we support the "Holz rettet Klima" (Wood saves the climate) initiative in its mission. The responsible use of our forests and the sustainability of wood as a raw material are crucial for us. Wolman invented modern wood preservation and has been a leader in the wood protection industry for more than a century. Wolman wood preservatives extend the life cycle and thus increase the sustainability of wood as a natural building material. Our products enable the use of locally grown woods such as pine and spruce in demanding applications (e.g. exposed to the weather) by significantly increasing the resistance of these woods to fungal, insect and termite infestation. Using wood preservatives reduces the need to cut fresh wood. In this way, the forests are conserved in their biodiversity. You can find out more about the initiative here: https://lnkd.in/ekm4MBiM Use wood preservatives safely. Always read the label and product information before use. #Wolman #Sika #WolmanExperts #holzrettetklima #holzschutzrettetklima #woodprotection

At Southport, we're proud to celebrate the incredible gifts that our forests provide us every day. From towering trees to sustainably sourced wood products, our commitment to preserving and utilizing these natural wonders is unwavering. This National Forest Products Week, let's take a moment to reflect on the invaluable role wood products play in storing carbon and mitigating climate change. 🌍 🌿 Carbon Heroes: Wood products act as carbon reservoirs, locking away carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This means that not only do our beautiful forests absorb carbon, but the timber they provide continues to store it, even after being harvested. A win-win for the planet! 🏡 Sustainable Building: Wood is one of the most eco-friendly materials for construction. Using wood in your projects helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing energy-intensive materials like steel and concrete. 🌞 Renewable Resource: Forests are a renewable resource, and responsible forestry practices ensure they continue to thrive. By choosing wood products from sustainably managed forests, you're supporting the cycle of growth, harvest, and replanting. 🌲 Support Local Economy: Buying wood products from your local lumber mill not only ensures high-quality materials but also supports local jobs and communities. This National Forest Products Week, join us in celebrating the beauty, versatility, and eco-friendliness of wood products. Let's keep our forests vibrant, our carbon footprint in check, and our communities thriving! 🌎🌲 #ForestProductsWeek #CarbonCapture #SustainableLiving #LumberMills #CommunitySupport #GreenConstruction

It's National Forest Products Week, and we're celebrating our favorite forest product: timber! Here are a few fun facts you may not have known: - Wood is an incredibly strong and long-lasting material. Evidence of timber framing goes back to the Stone Age, some 12,000 years ago! - Wood is the only building material that naturally regenerates. - Trees sequester carbon dioxide, and the wood holds it captive - even when it’s made into lumber and used to build a skyscraper. Here at Mid-Atlantic Timberframes, we understand that trees are an important natural resource our planet needs to survive and thrive. In an effort to combat deforestation, we make sure all of the wood used in our timber products is sourced from well-managed forests where our suppliers plant as many as ten times the number of trees they harvest. When you work with us, you can feel good knowing you’re taking part in a sustainable building process. #Timber #NationalForestProductsWeek #SustainableBuilding
