As Singapore continues to forge ahead in our sustainability journey, the food packaging industry stands as a crucial player. National Environment Agency's 'Reducing our Use of Disposables' programme sets the stage, prompting a shift towards eco-friendly alternatives in food packaging. This initiative not only curtails single-use items but cultivates a culture of responsible consumption. (https://lnkd.in/gjfxVtK5) Complementing this, the Packaging Partnership Programme brings industry leaders together to reimagine packaging solutions. By integrating sustainable materials and designs, we are reducing our environmental impact while maintaining product integrity. This collaborative effort is a testament to Singapore's dedication to sustainable practices at every level. (https://lnkd.in/g3KWrvuM) Muuse and FairPrice Group's Kopitiam's initiative in producing reusable containers can be a game-changer for the industry. By encouraging the adoption of reusable packaging, the partners are demonstrating their commitment towards reducing plastic waste and promoting a circular economy. The food packaging industry has a vital role to play in Singapore's sustainability agenda. By embracing these eco-conscious practices, such as incorporating biodegradable materials and championing reusable options, Singapore can march on to a greener and more environmentally responsible future. (https://lnkd.in/g5FqkzCf) In line with our sustainability efforts, By The Bay is actively promoting the adoption of Muuse products among our tenants at Marina Bay Financial Centre and One Raffles Quay. A few reflections on the state of #reuse on my whistle-stop tour to #hongkong Kong this week. The twin regulations on waste charging and banning single-use plastics coming into effect next April are definitely causing businesses to review their packaging solutions. Will this lead to an explosion in reusables? Probably not at this stage, though for sure we expect to see faster growth as businesses examine their options in this space. Whilst single-use plastics are banned, we expect cafes and restaurants to initially shift to the simplest alternative, to single-use paper and starch alternatives. This isn't the worst first step. Reuse offers distinct advantages over these single-use alternatives: in quality (if you think soggy straws are bad, wait until you try cups!) and in price, particularly when you factor in the new disposal costs of the b2b disposables packaging. It remains with Muuse and our partners to continue to make the case for reuse, to showcase our solutions that are already active and deployed, and help shift the industry to a more sustainable alternative. 👋 Back soon Hong Kong #singleuseplastic #sustainability #foodandbeverage #packaging #circulareconomy #msw

The IPC Little Eco-Heroes Awards have sparked a national conversation about sustainability, and we couldn't be more proud! A total of 151 ideas, 4944 votes, and 40 innovative prototypes were collected in our inaugural The Little Eco-Heroes Awards together with our super green partner IPC Shopping Centre recently. This collaborative initiative not only generated green eco- idea using recyclables materials but also encouraged innovative thinking in supporting the national sustainability dialogue. Its impact is a shining example of how innovative ideas can spark change and encourage environmental responsibility. We want to take this opportunity to thank our partner IPC Shopping Center and Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia for making it a great success. At Alliance Bank, we are dedicated to building a greener tomorrow to improve lives. We hope these awards serve as an example not only to the young champions but also everyone to carry forward the spirit of eco-consciousness in their daily lives. It's disappointing to see further delays in Singapore's polluter-pays scheme, especially amidst concerns over industry stalling tactics. However, Singapore's progressive culture gives hope for a positive outcome once the policy is implemented. If successful, it could serve as a role model for neighboring countries seeking to address environmental challenges effectively. Nevertheless, I'm left wondering: Do we let the beverage manufacturers take responsibility, where although the problem is in their hands they have an opportunity to delay and fines may be ineffective? Or is there an opportunity for grassroots community-based support? https://lnkd.in/dPti7AuX #PolluterPays #EnvironmentalPolicy #Sustainability #CommunityEngagement #ESG #Singapore #Recycling #OceanMaterial
