Bravo State of Colorado for ensuring compostables aren't greenwashing their way into the world of food packaging and compost collections. Effective July 1, 2024: ⚫ Producers cannot label products as compostable unless certified by an independent third-party verification body. ⚫Certified compostable products must comply with specific labeling standards to ensure they are easily and immediately distinguishable as such. As a recyclability champion, PET aligns with the objectives of the EU Green Deal, the Paris Agreement, and the circular economy. The establishment of design guidelines for PET packaging is the first step and essential to enhance recycling rates. We endorse and are happy to see the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP)'s newly launched design guidelines to structure the white opaque PET beverage bottle industry: https://bit.ly/3OubZnW The currently available and installed sorting technologies are able to identify and separate opaque colors from clear PET bottles. This possibility paves the way for the creation of a dedicated recycling stream, minimizing cross-contamination and thereby elevating the quality of both the opaque and clear PET bottle recyclates.
